Mets Lose to Marlins 2-1 And Waste Strong Start From Peterson

 The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins tonight 2-1 at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida and dropped their record to 1-1.

LHP David Peterson started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first, but then gave up a solo homer to RF Jorge Soler in the bottom of the second.

Peterson settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third, fourth and fifth innings and was taken out after the fifth.

His final line was five innings, eight hits, one run, one walk and five strikeouts.

Peterson was able to limit the damage and get out of jams to keep his team in the game.

He had good command of his slider and attacked the zone.

RHP Tommy Hunter followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.

RHP John Curtiss gave up a solo homer to CF Jazz Chisholm Jr in the bottom of the eighth.

The offense did not do much for the first three innings, but in the top of the fourth RF Starling Marte singled with one out and then was thrown out on a caught stealing.

SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk and then 1B Pete Alonso grounded out to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth, DH Mark Canha led off with a walk and then 2B Jeff McNeil grounded into a double play. 3B Eduardo Escobar struck out to end the inning.

In the top of the sixth, CF Brandon Nimmo walked with two outs and then Marte singled and stole second.

SS Francisco Lindor then walked to load the bases, but Alonso lined out to center to end the inning.

In the top of the eighth, pinch-hitter Daniel Vogelbach doubled with one out, but then Nimmo flew out to center and Marte lined out to right to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, Alonso hit a solo homer with one out and then Canha struck out and McNeil grounded out to second for the last out of the game.

The offense struggled all night with men on base leaving five runners on base and going 0-3 with runners in scoring position.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, April 1 at the Marlins at 4:10 p,m.
