The New York Mets confirmed that RHP closer RHP Edwin Diaz will have surgery today for a patellar tendon injury and will miss at least 8 months.
Diaz had a full-thickness tear in the patellar tendon in his right knee and injured himself during the celebration last night following Puerto Rico's win over the Dominican Republic.
This is a huge blow for the Mets bullpen and it means that RHP David Robertson could move up into a closer role in Diaz's absence.
