The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 24-4 this afternoon in the first game of their doubleheader and improved their record to 52-67. They set a franchise record for most runs in one game. SS Amed Rosario led off with a solo homer in the top of the first inning. Rosario drove in the game-tying run in the top of the third on an RBI single. 3B Todd Frazier drove in another run in the inning on a based loaded walk. In the top of the fifth inning, Rosario hit another RBI single, which brought home around run due to an error. In the top of the fifth inning, they broke out with 10 runs on seven hits and three walks. RF Jose Bautista delivered the big blow on a grand slam. In the top of the seventh inning, LF Michael Conforto hit a solo homer and catcher Kevin Plawecki hit a RBI single. In the top of the eighth inning, Bautista and SS Jose Reyes drew based loaded walks, two run double from Kevin Plawecki and a RBI single from reliever LHP Jerry Blevins. 1B Wilmer Flores hit a RBI double in the top of the ninth inning and Bautista drove in his seventh run with an RBI double.
RHP Corey Oswalt didn't have his best outing allowing four runs on nine hits with in six innings. Oswalt gave up one walk and had two strikeouts. He picked up his second win. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Jacob Rhyme closed it out with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings/
