Mets vs. Cubs Game 133 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs 10-3 this afternoon and improved their record to 59-74. SS Amed Rosario and CF Austin Jackson singled in the top of the first inning and then LF Michael Conforto walked to load the bases. 3B Todd Frazier followed with a grand slam. The offense was held scoreless for the next six innings, but woke up in the top of the seventh inning. Rosario drove in a run with an RBI single and Jackson also drove in a run. Pinch-hitter Jose Reyes broke the game open with a two-run triple. Pinch-hitter Tomas Nido followed by reaching on an error and then Conforto hit an RBI single. Frazier hit an RBI single in the top of the ninth and RF Brandon Nimmo also hit an RBI single.

LHP Jason Vargas had a scoreless bottom of the first innings, but gave up a run in the in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by RF Ian Happ. He settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth innings and got 2B Ben Zoborist to ground into a double play to end the bottom of the fifth inning. Vargas retired 1B Anthony Rizzo to begin the bottom of th sixth inning and was then taken out. His final line was 5.1 innings, 4 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks and six strikeouts. He picked up his fifth win. RHP Corey Oswalt came in next and got the last two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Tyler Bashlot followed and threw a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh inning with two strikeouts. RHP Drew Smith appeared next and had a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Jacob Rhyme gave up a two-run homer to 3B Victor Caratini in the bottom of the ninth.

The Mets have an off day tomorrow and return to action on Friday night against the San Francisco Giants at 10:15 P..M.

Mets-Cubs Game Suspended

Tonight's Mets-Cubs- game has been suspended due to rain after a 1-1 tie in the top of the tenth inning. RHP Jacob deGrom had another brilliant outing allowing one run in eight innings with 10 strikeouts. deGrom lowered his ERA to 1.68. RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.

Degrom drove in the only run with an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning. The offense was 1-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base.

The game will resume at 1:00 P.M. today in the top of the tenth and the series finale will begin 45 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game.

The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 7-4 tonight and dropped their record to 58-73. RHP Noah Syndergarrd got off to a difficult start in the bottom of the first inning after he gave up an RBI double to 2B Daniel Murphy, single to SS Javier Baez and later an RBI single to 1B Anthony Rizzo. Syndergarrd rebounded with a 1-2-3 bottom of the second inning, but gave up three more runs in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch and a two-run single by Cubs starter LHP Jon Lester. He settled down and finished up strong with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. His final line was 6 innings, 9 hits, 4 earned runs, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and gave up three straight hits and was unable to record an out. RHP Drew Smith came in next and gave up 2 runs.  LHP Daniel Zamora gave up a solo homer to Rizzo in the bottom of the eighth.

SS Amed Rosario led off the top of the first inning with a single, stole second and scored on an RBI single by CF Austin Jackson. LF Michael Conforto hit a solo homer in the top of the second inning. Rosario drove in a run in the top of the third inning on an RBI single. Catcher Kevin Plawecki hit a solo homer in the top of the seventh.

Mets vs. Nationals Game 130 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 15-0 today to drop their record to 58-72, but still managed to take two out of three games in the series. LHP Steven Matz cruised through the first five innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the sixth inning after SS Trea Turner doubled to lead off the inning, 2B Anthony Rendon singled. Matz struck out 1B Ryan Zimmerman, but gave up an RBI ground-out to LF Juan Soto. He finished up strong with a 1-2-3 top of the seventh inning. His final line was 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 earned run, 1 run, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and gave up a hit to RF Adam Eaton who then stole second base and gave up a walk to Turner. He gave up a single to Rendon to load the bases and struck out Zimmerman for the first out.. Sewald walked Soto to bring in a run and then allowed a three-run double to RF Bryce Harper and was then pulled. RHP Tyler Bashlor followed and gave up a two-run homer to 2B Wilmer Difo and a two-run homer to Eaton. RHP Corey Oswalt gave up 6 runs in the top of the ninth on a RBI single by Rendon, a based loaded walk and a grand-slam to pinch-hitter Mark Reynolds.

The offense didn't do much all day and had only three hits.

2B Jeff McNeil left the game in the bottom of the sixth injury due to a leg injury.

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 3-0 today for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 58-71. The offense was held scoreless for the first five innings until SS Amed Rosario hit a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning. 3B Todd Frazier also hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the eighth inning, catcher Kevin Plawecki led off with a single and then 2B Jeff McNeil singled with two outs and LF Michael Conforto hit an RBI single.

RHP Zack Wheeler continued his dominant stretch with seven scoreless innings. Wheeler gave up four walks and three strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 3.46 and has an ERA of 1.17 with 44 strikeouts and 10 walks in his last 7 starts. Wheeler has emerged as an ace and developed into the number two starter behind RHP Jacob deGrom. He picked up his ninth win. LHP Daniel Zamora came in next and retired CF Bryce Harper to start the top of the eighth inning and then RHP Drew Smith followed and got 2B Anthony Rendon and LF Juan Soto to end the inning. Smith came back out for the top of the ninth and retired 1B Ryan Zimmerman for the first out and LHP Jerry Blevins struck out catcher Matt Wieters and 2B Wilmer Difo for the final out.

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 3-0 tonight and improved their record to 57-71. SS Amed Rosario led off the bottom of the single, stole second and advanced to third base on a ground-out by 2B Jeff McNeil. 1B Wilmer Flores drove in Rosario with an RBI single. McNeil extended his hitting streak to nine games, drew his first walk since August 15th and had a stolen base. RF Jay Bruce added a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.

LHP Jason Vargas had his best outing of the season and held the Nationals to three hits in six innings/ Vargas had eight strikeouts and no walks. His curveball and change-up were effective and helped keep hitters off balanced. He has had a 2.07 ERA in his last three starts. Vargas picked up his fourth win on the season. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw two scoreless in the top of the seventh and eighth innings with three strikeouts. RHP Robert Gsellman closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning and picked up his eighth save.

The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 3-1 this afternoon and dropped their record to 56-71. RHP Jacob deGrom threw two scoreless innings in the top of the first and second inning, but gave up a run in the top of the third inning on a passed ball by catcher Devin Mesoraco. deGrom gave up a run in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI double by Giants starter LHP Madison Bumgarter. He finished up strong with scoreless innings in the top of the fifth and sixth inning. His final line was 6 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs ( 1 earned), 4 walks and 10 strikeouts. RHP Tyler Bashlor came in next and pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning, but gave up a run in the top of the eighth inning on a solo homer by 3B Evan Longaria. RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The offense was shut down by Giants ace LHP Madison Bumgarter for the first six innings, but broke through in the bottom of the seventh inning on a solo homer by 3B Todd Frazier. RF Jose Bautista followed with a hit by pitch and 2B Jeff McNeil singled, but catcher Kevin Plawecki grounded into a double play and LF Michael Conforto struck out to end the inning. After a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth inning, Bautista walked with two outs to bring up the tying run, but McNeil struck out on a questionable check swing call to end the game.

The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-3 tonight for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 56-70. 1B Dominic Smith drove in the first run in the bottom of the second with a solo homer. 2B Jeff McNeil also drove in a run in the second with an RBI triple and 3B Todd Frazier hit an RBI double RF Jose Bautista hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. Frazier drove in another run in the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer.

The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants 6-3 tonight and improved their record to 55-70. The offense was held scoreless for the first six innings, but finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh. LF Michael Conforto drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly. CF Austin Jackson followed with an RBI double to tie the game. In the bottom of the eighth inning, 3B Jose Reyes hit a triple and 2B Jeff McNeil drove him in with an RBI double. 1B Wilmer Flores was walked intentionally and Conforto broke the game open with a three-run homer.

LHP Steven Matz gave up a three-run homer to 3B Evan Longaria in the top of the first inning, but settled down after that and retired 12 hitters in a row at one point. He was taken out in the top of the fifth inning due to an 85 pitch limit. RHP Corey Oswalt came in next for his first relief appearance and was outstanding. Oswalt threw three scoreless innings and picked up his third win. RHP Seth Lugo gave up a run in the top of the ninth inning, but was able to close it out and secure the win.

The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 2-1 last night in 13 innings last night and dropped their record to 54-70. RHP Zack Wheeler continued his brilliant stretch with another dominating outing. Wheeler cruised through the first six innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the seventh. Wheeler allowed the first two Giants to reach base, but then retired 3B Evan Longaio and got CF Steven Duggar to line out. LF 'Alan Hanson hit a fly ball that fell into left field which allowed SS Brandon Crawford to score. He retired pinch-hitter Hunter Pence to end the inning. His final line was 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 earned run, 1 walk and 10 strikeouts. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings. LHP Jerry Blevins threw a scoreless top of the tenth inning. RHP Paul Sewald recorded the first two outs in the top of the eleventh and LHP Daniel Zamora had to come in to get the last out in the eleventh. RHP Tyler Bashlor threw a scoreless top of the twelfth inning, but gave up a lead-off single to Chase d'Arnaud in the top of the thirteenth inning, and had an errant pick-off throw which allowed d'Arnaud to advance to second base. He threw a wild pitch to put d'Arnaud on third and got 2B Joe Panik to foul out for the first out and catcher Buster Posey grounded out to 1B Wilmer Flores, who threw d'Arnaud out at home. SS Brandon Crawford hit a pop fly between shortstop and left field, but SS Amed Rosario and LF Dom Smith bumped into each other and the ball fell in for the go-ahead run.

SS Amed Rosario led off the bottom of the first inning with a single and scored on an RBI double by 1B Wilmer Flores. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Flores and 3B Todd Frazier both singled to start the inning, but RF Jose Bautista grounded into a double play and 2B Jose Reyes grounded out to end the inning. Pinch-hitters Jeff McNeil and Michael Conforto singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but were quickly erased off the base-paths after SS Amed Rosario grounded into a double play. In the bottom of the eleventh inning, Flores singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Bautista later walked and Reyes lined out to end the inning. Conforto and Rosario both walked with two outs in the bottom of the twelfth, but CF Austin Jackson popped out to end the inning, The bats went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the thirteenth.

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 8-2 tonight in Williamsport, PA and improved their record to 54-69. The offense broke through in the top of the second after 3B Todd Frazier and CF Austin Jackson singled to start the inning. RF Jose Bautista drove home Frazier on an RBI single and catcher Kevin Plawecki drove home Jackson. Two batters later, SS Amed Rosario drove in Bautista and Plawecki on a two-run single. In the top of the fourth inning, Jackson and Bautista both singled to lead off the inning and Rosario later singled to load the bases. 2B Jeff McNeil broke it open with a two-run single. In the top of the sixth, Plawecki and LHP Jason Vargas both singled and Rosario drove in Plawecki. In the top of the eighth, 1B Dom Smith drove home Plawecki with an RBI double.

Mets vs. Phillies Game 122 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 this afternoon and improved their record to 53-69. The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings, but broke through in the top of the fourth inning. 2B Jeff McNeil led off with a single and 1B Wilmer Flores hit a single that deflected off the third base bag, which scored McNeil. The bats were quiet for the next two inning until the top of the seventh when catcher Devin Mesoraco hit a solo homer, SS Amed Rosario hit a single, and McNeil drove in Rosario on an RBI triple.

RHP Jacob degrom continued his outstanding season with another dominating performance. deGrom cruised through the first three innings and had to sit through a 41 minute rain delay entering the top of the fourth inning. He gave up a lead-off single to LF Rhys Hoskins in the bottom of the fourth inning, but then retired 1B Carlos Santana, struck out catcher Wilson Ramos and then struck out RF Nick Williams to end the inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, he had 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth inning and was helped on by a sharp play by McNeil to rob 2B Odubel Herrera. deGrom worked around a baserunner in the bottom of the sixth and left Hoskins stranded at second base. He gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning after SS Amed Rosario made a throwing error on a double play which allowed Nick Williams to score. deGrom gave up a single to 2B Cesar Hernandez to bring up Rhys Hoskins as the tying run, but struck out Hoskins to end the inning. In the bottom of the ninth, he gave up a lead-off single to 1B Carlos Santana, but got catcher Wilson Ramos to ground into a double-play and retired Williams to end the game. His final line was one unearned run on seven hits with nine strikeouts and no walks in nine innings. degrom lowered his ERA to 1.71 and picked up his eighth win. This was his 22th consecutive start allowing three runs or less.

Mets vs. Phillies Game 121 Recap

RHP Noah Syndergarrd

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 tonight and dropped their record to 52-69. RHP Noah Syndergarrrd gave up tgour consecutive hits and three runs in the bottom of the first inning, Syndergarrd gave up an RBI double to 2B Asdrubal Cabrera, RBI single to RF Nick Williams and an RBI ground-out to 1B Carlos Santana. He settled down with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third innings, but gave up an RBI catcher to Jorge Alfaro in the bottom of the fourth inning. He threw a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning and got two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning before being taken out. His final line was four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks in 5.2 innings. Rookie LHP Daniel Zamora came in next for his MLB debu6 and got the last out in the bottom of the sixth inning and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Robert Gsellman threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

The offense struggled against Phillies starter RHP Aaron Nola and had only six hits. 3B Todd Frazier hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning. CF Austin Jackson hit a RBI single in the top of the eighth inning.

Mets vs. Phillies Game 120 Recap

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 9-6 tonight in second game of doubleheader and dropped their record to 52-68. LHP Steven Matz made his first start since coming off the disabled list and had a difficult outing allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts in two innings. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the third inning. RHP Drew Smith followed and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. RHP Bobby Wahl gave up two runs in the bottom of the sixth. RHP Tyler Bashlor gave up a run in the bottom of the seventh, but stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

The offense got off to a fast start after SS Amed Rosario and 2B Jeff McNeil doubled to start the top of the first inning and LF Michael Conforto drove them in on a two-run double. The bats were silent until the top of the seventh inning when Rosario hit an RBI double and Conforto hit an RBI single. In the top of the ninth inning, Conforto drove in his fourth run of the game with a single and 1B Wilmer Flores also hit an RBI single.

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 24-4 this afternoon in the first game of their doubleheader and improved their record to 52-67. They set a franchise record for most runs in one game. SS Amed Rosario led off with a solo homer in the top of the first inning. Rosario drove in the game-tying run in the top of the third on an RBI single. 3B Todd Frazier drove in another run in the inning on a based loaded walk. In the top of the fifth inning, Rosario hit another RBI single, which brought home around run due to an error. In the top of the fifth inning, they broke out with 10 runs on seven hits and three walks. RF Jose Bautista delivered the big blow on a grand slam. In the top of the seventh inning, LF Michael Conforto hit a solo homer and catcher Kevin Plawecki hit a RBI single. In the top of the eighth inning, Bautista and SS Jose Reyes drew based loaded walks, two run double from Kevin Plawecki and a RBI single from reliever LHP Jerry Blevins. 1B Wilmer Flores hit a  RBI double in the top of the ninth inning and Bautista drove in his seventh run with an RBI double.

RHP Corey Oswalt didn't have his best outing allowing four runs on nine hits with in six innings. Oswalt gave up one walk and had two strikeouts. He picked up his second win. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Jacob Rhyme closed it out with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings/

Mets vs. Orioles Game 118 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles 16-5 tonight and improved their record to 51-67. RF Brandon Nimmo and 2B Jeff McNeil singled to begin the game in the top of the first inning and Nimmo scored on a sacrifice fly by 1B Wilmer Flores and McNeil scored on a RBI single by 3B Todd Frazier. CF Austin Jackson tripled in the top of the fourth inning and scored on an RBI single by 3B Jose Bautista. SS Jose Reyes also tripled in the fourth and scored on an RBI double by Nimmo.  3B Todd Frazier hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth. In the top of the sixth inning, Nimmo hit a two-run triple and later scored on a wild pitch. Frazier hit a two-run homer in the sixth. Catcher Kevin Plaewecki broke the game open with a grand slam to cap off nine runs in the inning. In the ninth, Nimmo singled for his fifth hit of the game and 1B Wilmer Flores hit a two-run homer.

RHP Zack Wheeler gave up a run in the bottom of the first inning, but settled down after that with four scoreless innings. He pitched well and worked around a lot of traffic on the basepaths, despite not having his best stuff. His final line was 5 innings, 5 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks and three strikeouts. He picked up his eighth win. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Tim Peterson followed and gave up two runs in four innings. RHP Drew Smith closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.

The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 tonight and dropped their record to 50-67. LHP Jason Vargas bounced back from his previous outings and allowed two runs on five hits in six innings. Vargas gave up three walks and had one strikeout. He wound up with a no-decision. RHP Bobby Wahl came in next and allowed a solo homer to 1B Chris Davis in the bottom of the seventh was taken out in the middle of the seventh inning. RHP Paul Sewald followed and gave up an infield hit which brought home a run. Sewald stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and gave up a two-run homer to SS Tim Beckham. RHP Tyler Bashlor had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Catcher Kevin Plawecki drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the top of the fifth. SS Amed Rosario followed with an RBI single. LF Brandon Nimmo tripled to lead off the top of the ninth inning and 3B Todd Frazier reached on a throwing error which brought home a run. The offense left six runners on base and were three for nine with runners in scoring position.

The New York Mets defeated the New York Yankees 8-5 tonight and improved their record to 50-66. The offense got off to a fast start after SS Amed Rosario led off with a homer and RF Brandon Nimmo followed with a double. Three batters later, 2B Jeff McNeil drove him in with an RBI single. In the top of the fourth inning, CF Austin Jackson led off with a single and DH Jose Bautista hit a two-run homer. 3B Todd Frazier hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning. Nimmo and LF Michael Conforto hit back-to-back homers in the top of the seventh inning. McNeil grounded into a fielder's choice in the top of the ninth, which brought home a run.

RHP Jacob deGrom had scoreless innings in the bottom of the first and second innings, but gave up an two-run single to CF Aaron Hicks in the bottom of the third inning. deGrom bounced back with a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning, but gave up an RBI single to SS Didi Gregarious. He had another scoreless inning in the bottom of the sixth and retired 2B Neil Walker and catcher Austin Romine for the first two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and was then taken out. His final line was 6.2 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 2 walks and 12 strikeouts. He picked up his seventh win. LHP Jerry Blevins followed and got the last out in the bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Seth Lugo gave up two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-run homer by 3B Miguel Andujar. RHP Robert Gsellman closed it out with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning and recorded his seventh save on the season.

SS Amed Rosario led off with a walk in the top of the first inning, stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly by 1B Wilmer Flores. 2B Jose Reyes hit a two-run homer in the top of the second inning. LF Michael Conforto added a solo homer in the top of the sixth inning.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd had an adequate start and allowed a run in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single by Starlin Castro, but settled down with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third. Syndergarrd gave up a RBI single to catcher Bryan Holaday in the bottom of the fourth. He had scoreless inning in the bottom of the fifth inning, but gave up another RBI single to Holadaty in the bottom of the sixth inning. Syndergarrd finished up strong with a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. His final line was three runs on seven hits in seven innings with two walks and seven strikeouts. He picked up his eighth win. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning and picked up his first save.

RHP Paul Sewald followed and had a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Tyler Bashlor threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the ninth and tenth innings. RHP Jacob Rhyme came in the bottom of the eleventh inning and gave up an RBI walk-off double to pinch-hitter Bryan Holliday.

The offense wasn't able to do much all night and had six hits. 3B Todd Frazier drove in the only runs of the game with a three-run double in the top of the fourth inning.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, until LF Michael Conforto hit an RBI single in the top of the third inning. SS Amed Rosario hit a two-run single in the top of the sixth inning. Catcher Kevin Plawecki added a two-run single in the top of the ninth inning.

RHP Zack Wheeler had another terrific outing allowing two runs on four hits in seven innings. He gave up one walk and had eight strikeouts. Wheeler improved his record to 7-6 on the season and lowered his ERA to 3.82. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Drew Smith closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.

The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds 8-0 this afternoon and improved their record to 47-65. CF Austin Jackson drove in the first run of the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, RHP Jacob deGrom drew a based loaded walk, which brought home a run. SS Amed Rosario followed with a sacrifice fly. RF Brandon Nimmo drove in a run on an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning. CF Austin Jackson followed with an RBI single. Nimmo hit another RBI double in the bottom of the sixth. Jackson hit a RBI double for his third RBI on the day.

RHP Jacob deGrom continued his dominant season with another outstanding performance. deGrom gave up four hits and one walk in six scoreless innings. He had 10 strikeouts. deGrom picked up his sixth win and first since June 18th and lowered his ERA to 1.77. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. LHP Jerry Blevins followed and threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Robert Gsellman closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The Mets have an off day tomorrow and return to action on Friday night against the Miami Marlins at 7:10 P.M.

The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 6-1 last night and dropped their record to 46-65. The game was delayed for 100 minutes due to rain at the beginning in the top of the first. LHP Jason Vargas gave up three runs in the top of the first inning and recorded  one out. RHP Paul Sewald had to come in to get the last two outs and stayed in for the top of the second and pitched a 1-2-3 inning.  RHP Bobby Wahl gave up two runs on a two-run homer by LF Phillip Ervin in the top of the third inning.  RHP Tyler Bashlor followed and threw two scoreless in the top of the fourth and fifth inning. RHP Drew Smith also threw two scoreless in the top of the sixth and seventh innings.  RHP Jacob Rhyme threw a scoreless inning in the top of the eighth, but gave up a run in the ninth on a solo homer by former Met 2B Dilson Herrera.

The offense struggled all night and wasn't able to get anything going against Reds starter RHP Sal Romano. They ha four hits. RHP Jose Bautista drove in the only run on a RBI single in the bottom of the third inning.

The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 tonight and improved their record to 46-64. The offense jumped on the board early in the bottom of the first inning after SS Amed Rosario and 2B Jeff McNeil hit back-to back singles and 1B Wilmer Flores hit an RBI single. 3B Todd Frazier drove in McNeil with an RBI single. CF Austin Jackson also hit an RBI single. Catcher Kevin Plawecki hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. Flores hit another RBI single in the fourth. McNeil added a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd cruised through the first six innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the seventh. Syndergarrd hit LF Preston Tucker and pinch-hitter Phillip Ervin and then allowed a single to CF Billy Hamilton to load the bases. He gave up an RBI single to SS Jose Peraza and was then taken out. RHP Bobby Wahl came in next and walked 1B Joey Votto with the based loaded to bring in a run. Wahl struck out 2B Scooter Gennett and was then taken out. RHP Robert Gsellman followed and gave up a two-run single to 3B Eugenio Suarez.  Syndergarrd's final line was 6.1 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. He picked up his sixth. Gsellman stayed in and threw a 1--2--3 top of the eighth inning. LHP Jerry Blevins closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning and picked up his first save.

The New York Mets to the Atlanta Braves 5-4 today in 10 innings and dropped their record to 45-64. RHP Corey Oswalt cruised through the first four innings, but gave up a run in the top of the fifth inning on a solo homer by Braves starter RHP Julio Teheran. Oswalt bounced back with a scoreless top of the fifth inning, but gave up two runs in the top of the seventh inning after 3B Jorge Camargo singled and CF Ender Inciarte hit a two-run homer. He faced one more batter and gave up a single to SS Dansby Swanson. His final line was three runs on eights hits with no walks and four strikeouts in six innings. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and picked up two outs in the top of the seventh inning. LHP Jerry Blevins followed and got the last out in the top of the sixth and the first out in the top of the eighth. RHP Seth Lugo appeared next and got the last two outs in the eighth, but got into a jam in the top of the ninth inning after Inciarte singled and Swanson sacrificed him over to second inning. Lugo then gave up a RBI single to LF Ronald Acuna Jr. RHP Tyler Bashlor gave up the go-ahead solo homer to RF Nick Markakis in the top of the tenth inning.

The offense got on the board early after SS Amed Rosario led off with a single, stole second and two batters later 1B Wilmer Flores drove him in with a RBI single. In the bottom of the third inning, Rosario drew a walk and scored from first on a RBI double by 2B Jeff McNeil. CF Austin Jackson hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning. In the bottom of the ninth inning, catcher Devin Mesoraco hit a solo homer to tie the game.

The bats were held scoreless in the bottom third, fourth and fifth innings, but woke up in the bottom of the sixth. CF Austin Jackson drove in a run on an RBI single and catcher Kevin Plawecki hit a sacrifice fly.

RHP Zack Wheeler had another dominating performance with seven scoreless innings allowing three hits and one walk. He had a career-high nine strikeouts. This was his fourth consecutive win and he lowered his ERA to 3.89. He picked up his six win. He has thrown 17 consecutive scoreless innings. He is looking better every start and gaining more confidence. Wheeler is finally healthy and beginning to evolve into a top of the rotation starter. RHP Bobby Wahl came in next and got the first two outs in the top of the eighth. RHP Robert Gsellman picked up the last four outs and recorded his sixth save on the season.

Mets vs. Braves Game 107 Recap

RHP Jacob deGrom


The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 2-1 tonight for their fourth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 44-63. RHP Jacob deGrom got the start had another outstanding outing. deGrom had a scoreless top of the first inning, but gave up a run in the top of the second inning on a solo homer to 3B Johan Camargo. He had scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth innings, but allowed a run in the top of the fifth after he gave up back-to-back doubles to LF Ronald Acuna and 2B Ozzie Albies. He bounced back with scoreless innings in the top of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. His final line was 8 innings, 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. RHP Anthony Swarsak followed with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning.

In the bottom of the third inning, SS Amed Rosario hit a double and deGrom drove him in with an RBI single. After that, they had  a base-runner in the bottom of the sixth, seventh and eighth inning, but weren't able to score. The offense had two hits and struck out 10 times.

Mets vs. Braves Game 106 Recap

LHP Jason Vargas


The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 4-2 tonight and dropped their record to 44-61. LHP Jason Vargas got off to a rocky start in the top of the first inning after he gave up a lead-off triple and RBI single. He bounced back with a 1-2-3 top of the second inning, but gave up three more runs in the top of the third inning. Vargas settled down after that and retired seven of the last nine hitters he faced. His final line was four runs on six hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in five innings. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and threw a scoreless top of the sixth inning and retired the first batter he faced in the top of the seventh. LHP Jerry Blevins followed and retired 2B Ozzie Albies and 1B Freddie Freeman to end the inning. Blevins stayed in for one batter in the top of the eighth inning and then rookie RHP Bobby Wahl came in to make his MLB debut. Wahl retired the two batters he faced. RHP Robert Gsellman pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

RF Brandon Nimmo got the offense on the board early with a lead-off homer in the bottom of the first inning. They were hitless after that after 1B Wilmer Flores singled in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, SS Jose Reyes doubled and pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme drove him in with a RBI single. After that, they managed just a single and two walks the rest of the game. Overall, the offense had six hits, two walks and two runs.

Mets Call up Bobby Wahl

The New York Mets are calling up reliever RHP Bobby Wahl from Triple-A Las Vegas. Wahl was acquired from the Oakland Athletics in the trade for closer RHP Jeurys Familia. He has had an All-Star season between Triple-A Nashville and Las Vegas. He has a 2.20 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 14.6 K/9 this year.

Mets vs. Nationals Game 105 Recap

RHP Noah Syndergarrd


The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 5-3 today to get swept in the two-game series and dropped their record to 44-61. RHP Noah Syndergarrd made his return on the mound from hand, foot, and mouth disease and had a decent outing. Syndergarrd gave up a RBI single to RF Bryce Harper in the bottom of the third inning and a two-run homer to 2B Anthony Rendon. He settled down after that and retired 12 batters in a row in one stretch and 15 out of the last 16 batters he faced. His final line was 7 innings, 6 hits, 3 earned runs, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and gave up two unearned runs due to errors by 1B Wilmer Flores and 2B Jose Reyes.

The offense was held scoreless by Nationals starter LHP Tommy Millone for the four innings until Jose Reyes hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning. Reyes hit another solo homer in the top of the eighth inning. Wilmer Flores added a solo homer in the top of the ninth inning.
