Mets Hang On To Beat Nationals 8-7 Powered By Vientos

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 8-7 tonight at Nationals Park to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 25-35.

After a scoreless top of the first, RF Starling Marte led off with a single and then stole second.

3B Mark Vientos followed with a walk and then Marte advanced to third on a wild pitch.

CF Harrison Bader then drove in Marte with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the fourth, Vientos led off and continued his torrid stretch with a solo homer and two batters later, 2B Jose Iglesias singled.

Later in the inning, Iglesias stole second and then came around to score on a RBI single by SS Francisco Lindor.

In the top of the fifth, D.H. J.D. Martinez singled with one out and then Marte followed with a single.

Martinez and Marte advanced to second and third with a walk and then Vientos drew a walk to load the bases.

Bader then drove in the tying run with his second sacrifice fly of the night and Iglesias drove in the go-ahead with a RBI single.

Catcher Luis Torrens followed with a key two-run double.

In the top of the sixth, Martinez singled with two outs and then Marte followed with a single and Martinez was able to score after reliever RHP Jacob Barnes threw the ball away trying to throw Marte out at first base.

RHP Tylor Megill had a scoreless bottom of the first, but was let down his defense in the bottom of the second after Bader made a fielding error due to the ball coming out of his glove which allowed 3B Nick Senzel to advance to second.

Megill gave up a RBI single to the following hitter LF Jesse Winker.

Megill had a scoreless bottom of the third, but gave up three more runs in the bottom of the fourth on a fielder's choice and a two-run homer by 1B Joey Gallo.

Megill gave up another run in the bottom of the fifth on a based loaded walk to Winker and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was five innings, seven hits, five runs, three walks and four strikeouts.

He picked up his first win.

RHP Adrian Houser followed and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.

Houser came back out for the bottom of the eighth and ran into trouble and was taken out with one out in the inning.

RHP Drew Smith came on and got the last two outs in the eighth.

RHP Adam Ottavino came on in the bottom of the ninth and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a lead-off walk and hit batsman and after a flyout, gave up a RBI single to Winker.

Ottavino then gave up a single to SS Ildemaro Vargas which loaded the bases and was taken out.

LHP Jake Diekmann came on and gave up a sacrifice fly to pinch-hitter Joey Menesis and struck out the next hitter catcher Drew Millas for the final out and picked up his second save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, June 4 at the Nationals at 6:45 p.m.

Mets Lose to Diamondbacks 5-4 After Bullpen Blows Another Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 this afternoon at Citi Field and dropped their record to 24-35.

LHP Jose Quintana got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a two-run homer to 2B Ketel Marte.

Quintana gave up another homer, this time a solo shot to LF Lourdes Guerriel Jr in the top of the second.

Quintana had scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was four innings, four hits, three runs, three walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

LHP Danny Young came in next and got the last two outs in the top of the sixth.

RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

LHP Jake Diekmann came on in the top of the ninth and gave up a lead-off double and later in the inning, another two-run homer to Marte.

The Met offense did all their damage in the bottom of the third after 1B Pete Alonso hit a RBI single with two outs and then LF Brandon Nimmo and DH J.D. Martinez followed with RBI triples.

They did not do much the rest of the game and managed only one for the rest of the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, June 3 at the Washington Nationals at 6:45 p.m.

Mets Lose to Diamondbacks 10-5 on Darryl Strawberry Retirement Number Ceremony

The New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-5 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 24-34.

LHP Sean Manaea started out well with two scoreless innings, but then gave up a grand slam to 1B Christian Walker in the top of the third.

Manaea had scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth and in the top of the sixth, he gave up a RBI single to 2B Blaze Alexander who then came around to score on a wild pitch.

Manaea was taken out with two out ins the top of the sixth and his final line was 5.2 innings, six hits, six runs, two walks and 10 strikeouts.

LHP Josh Walker followed and gave up two runs in the top of the seventh on a RBI single by RF Randall Grichuk and later in the inning, a sacrifice fly by 3B Eugenio Suarez.

Walker gave up two more runs in the top of the eighth on a two-run single by CF Corbin Carroll.

LHP Danny Young came on in the top of the ninth and threw a scoreless inning.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first four innings until 3B Mark Vientos hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth.

In the bottom of the ninth, catcher Tomas Nido drove in a run with a RBI ground-out and then 2B Jose Iglesias reached on an infield hit which brought home a run.

1B Pete Alonso then hit a two-run homer with two outs, but DH J.D. Martinez flew out to end the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, June 2 at home against the Diamondbacks at 1:40 p.m.
