RHP Adonis Medina was recalled as corresponding roster move.
May has been dealing with right tripceps inflammation and also had an MRI for it.
He has had a difficult start to the year allowing 8 earned runs on 13 hits in 8 1/3 innings.

RHP Chris Bassitt started out well with three scoreless innings, but in the top of the fourth he gave up a lead-off homer to 3B Austin Riley.
Bassitt had a scoreless top of the fifth, and then in the top of the sixth he ran into trouble after he gave up a lead-off single to Riley and two batters later, a single to 2B Ozzie Albies.
Bassitt's struggles in the inning continued after he then gave up a RBI double to former Met catcher Travis d'Arnau and a sacrifice fly to the following hitter CF Adam Duvall.
He did not allow any more runs in the sixth and threw a scoreless top of the seventh and came out after the inning.
His final line was 7 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts.
RHP Trevor May followed in the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off walk to 1B Matt Olson and later in the inning, an infield hit to Albies.
May's struggles continued after he gave up a two-run double to d'Arnaud. After the game, May said he has been dealing with a triceps strain since the beginning of the year which might result in a stint on the Injured List (IL).
RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the ninth.
After a scoreless bottom of the first, RF Starling Marte doubled with one out in the bottom of the second and later scored on a wild pitch by LHP Max Fried.
In the bottom of the third, LF Mark Canha hit a solo homer.
The bats did not do much after that and wasted several scoring opportunities with men on base including the bottom of the seventh when Canha struck out with the based loaded and two outs.
They were 0-6 with runners in scoring position (RISP) and left seven runners on base.
The Mets next games are a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon Tuesday, May 3 against the Braves with the first game starting at 3:10 p.m.

Cano had a difficult tenure with the Mets after coming over in 2019
in a trade with the Seattle Mariners coming off a suspension for performance
enhancing drugs (PED’s) along with closer Edwin Diaz.
Cano struggled in the 2019 season with a .736 OPS and then came
back in the shortened 2020 COVID season with a .896 OPS over 182 appearances.
However that was short lived after he tested posted again for PEDs
in November of 2020 and was suspended for the entire 2021 season.
Cano struggled this year in his return from his suspension with
only eight hits (seven singles) during 43 at-bats in April of 2022 with a .501
OPS.
Since Cano was designated for assignment, another team has 10 days
to either claim him or trade for his contract.
The Mets still have to pay him his entire contract from the 5 year
and $120 million that he had left on his deal that he previously signed with
the Seattle Mariners prior to being traded to the Mets.
He already received $4 million of his $20 million this year, so the
Mets have to pay him an additional $36 million between this year and next year.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 3B Eduardo Escobar reached on an infield single with one out in the bottom of the second and after 1B Dom Smith followed with a single, RF Starling Marte then hit a RBI groundout and 2B Luis Guillorme hit a RBI double.
In the bottom of the fourth, Escobar led off with a single and Smith followed with a RBI double to tie the game.
In the following inning, SS Francisco Lindor singled with one out and LF Jeff McNeil then doubled which advanced Lindor to third.
1B Pete Alonso was then intentionally walked and Lindor then scored on a passed ball by catcher J.T. Realmuto.
Later in the bottom of fifth, Smith delivered once again with a two-run single to increase the lead to 6-3.
After a scoreless bottom of the sixth, Lindor led off the bottom of the seventh and reached on an error by 2B Jean Segura and then McNeil followed with a single.
1B Pete Alonso then came up and hit a RBI single and two batters later, Smith singled for his fourth hit of the game which loaded the bases.
RF Starling Marte then came up and broke the game open with a two-run single.
In the bottom of the eighth, CF Brandon Nimmo singled with one out and then Lindor was hit by a pitch.
McNeil then came up and delivered with a RBI double for his fourth hit of the game.
RHP Max Scherzer started out red-hot striking out the first five hitters he faced, but then gave up a solo homer to LF Kyle Schwarber with two outs in the top of the second.
Scherzer had a scoreless top of the third, but in the top of the fourth, he walked catcher J.T Realmuto with two outs and then gave up a two-run homer to Schwarber, his second of the game.
Scherzer had a scoreless top of the fifth, but gave up a solo homer to RF Bryce Harper in the top of the sixth and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was 6 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk, and 9 strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win on the year.
LHP Joely Rodriguez followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.
RHP Seth Lugo then threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Yoan Lopez came on in the top of the ninth and gave up a two-run homer to SS Jorge Carmargo, but managed to get the last three outs to close it out.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday May 2nd at home against the Atlanta Braves at 7:10 p.m.
