The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a triple and two batters later, 3B Bo Bichette drove in Lindor with a RBI ground-out.
The offense was held scoreless for the next three innings until the top of the fifth after CF Carson Benge led off with a single and two batters later, Lindor walked. LF Juan Soto then grounded into a fielder's choice, and Bichette came up next and delivered once again with a RBI single.
In the top of the sixth, RF Brett Baty led off with a single and 1B Jared Young followed with a RBI double.
2B Marcus Semien followed with a strikeout and then Benge grounded out, but catcher Francisco Alvarez walked and Lindor was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Soto followed with a based loaded walk to bring in another run.
RHP Clay Holmes gave up a lead-off walk to 2B JJ Wetherholt and then was able to induce a ground-out and committed a balk to advance Wetherholt to third. Holmes gave up a RBI single to 1B Alec Burleson.
Holmes was able to settle down after that with back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning and retired seven hitters in a row before allowing a two-out solo homer to 3B Nolan Gorman.
Holmes's final line was two runs on four hits in 5.2 innings. He had five strikeouts with three walks. He was able to induce eight ground-outs including a double play grounder and two flyouts. Holmes picked up his first win.
RHP Tobias Myers followed and picked up the last out in the bottom of the sixth. Myers stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and had a dominating inning striking out the side on 12 pitches.
LHP Brooks Raley came in next in the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.
RHP Devin Williams followed in the bottom of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning to pick up his first save.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, March 31 at the Cardinals at 7:45 p.m.
