Mets Eliminated by Dodgers 10-5 in Game 6 of NLCS After Manaea Struggles and Offense Fails To Come Up With Timely Hits

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-5 in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series and lose the series 4-2.

LHP Sean Manaea cleary did not have his best stuff starting in the bottom of the first due to decreasing fastball velocity after he gave up a lead-off single to DH Shohei Ohtani and two batters later a single to LF Teoscar Hernandez.

Manaea then gave up a two-run double to 2B Tommy Edman.

Manaea was able to get a scoreless bottom of the second, but then ran into more trouble in the bottom of the third.

Manaea gave up a lead-off single to Hernandez and then a two-run homer to Edman and walked 1B Max Munch and was then taken out.

RHP Phil Maton followed and after retiring the first two hitters he faced, gave up a two-run homer to catchee Will Smith and was taken out after the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and was then taken out.

RHP Ryne Stanek followed in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a lead-off walk to Smith and two batters later, a RBI single to Ohrani and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and retired the next three hitters he faced to end the inning.

RHP Kodai Senga followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh, but then had a rough bottom of the eighth.

Senga gave up a lead-off single to 2B Chris Taylor and then walked Ohtani.

Senga then gave up a RBI double to the following hitter RF Mookie Betts and a sacrifice fly to the following hitter Teoscar Hernandez.

Later in the inning, Senga gave up a RBI single to Kiki Hernandez and was then taken out with two outs.

RHP Jose Butto had to come in and retired CF Andy Pages on a fly out to center to end the inning.

The Met offense got on the board early in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a ground-out to second to advance Lindor to third and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in Lindor with an infield single.

In the top of the second, catcher Francisco Alvarez walked and Lindor singled with two outs, but Nimmo popped out to second to end the inning.

In the top of the third, Alonso reached first on another infield single with one out and then DH Jesse Winker walked.

Two batters later, CF Tyrone Taylor was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs, but then 2B Jeff McNeil struck out to end the inning.

In the top of the fourth, catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a single and three batters later, 3B Mark Vientos hit a two-run homer for his fifth homer of the postseason along with 18 hits and 14 RBI.

After a scoreless top of the fifth, Alvarez singled to lead off the top of the sixth and then Vientos and Alonso walked to load the bases with two outs.

Winker had a chance to cut into the lead, but flew out to left to end the inning.

In the top of the seventh, Taylor and McNeil singled with one out and then Alvarez drove in Taylor with a sacrifice fly.

After a scoreless top of the eighth, Taylor singled with two outs in the top of the ninth and McNeil followed with a RBI single.

Alvarez grounded out to second for the final out of the game.

The Met offense had numerous chances to deliver with men on base, but were unable to come up with big hits.

They went 2-9 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets now look ahead to the offseason and will be interesting to see what moves David Steans makes to improve this roster.

Mets Rout Dodgers 12-6 Behind Powerful Offense To Win Game 5 of NLCS And Avoid Elimination

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 12-6 this afternoon in Game 5 of the NLCS at Citi Field to stave off elimination and now trail the series 3-2.

The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso blasted a three-run homer.

After a scoreless bottom of the second, Alonso walked to lead off the bottom of the third and DH Jesse Winker followed with a walk.

RF Starling Marte then hit a two-run double. 

Three batters later, catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a RBI single.

Lindor then hit a RBI triple.

Nimmo followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fourth, Alonso led off with a hit by pitch and Winker followed with a RBI triple.

Three batters later, 2B Jeff McNeil drove in Winker with a sacrifice fly.

After a scoreless bottom of the fifth, Winker led off with a hit by pitch in the bottom of the sixth and Marte followed with a double.

Two batters layter, McNeil drove in Winker with another sacrifice fly.

After a scoreless bottom of the seventh, Alonso singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth and Winker followed with a single.

Marte then drove in Alonso with a RBI single.

LHP David Peterson worked out of a second and third and no out jam in the top of the first and then gave up a run in the top of the second on a wild pitch.

Peterson had a scoreless top of the third and retired the first two hitters he faced in the top of the fourth, but then gave up a solo homer to CF Andy Pages and then gave up a single to DH Shohei Ohtani and walked RF Mookie Betts and LF Teoscar Hernandez to load the bases and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and struck out 1B Freddie Freeman on a 3-2 backdoor slider to end the inning.

Peterson's final line was 3.2 innings, six hits, two runs, four walks and three strikeouts.

Garrett stayed in for the top of the fifth and gave up a three-run homer to Pages and was taken out with two outs in the inning.

RHP Ryne Stanek followed and struck out Ohtani to end the fifth.

Stanek came back out for the top of the sixth and gave up a lead-off homer to Betts, but then came back to strike out Hernandez, 1B Freddie Freeman and 2B Tommy Edman flew out to centerfield to end the inning.

Stanek stayed in for the top of the seventh and had a 1-2-3 inning and was taken out.

His final line was 2.1 innings, one hit, one run, 0 walks and four strikeouts.

He picked up his first win of the postseason.

RHP Edwin Diaz then closed it out with two out scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Sunday, October 20 at the Los Angeles Dodgers for Game 6 of the National League Championship Series at 8:08 p.m.

Mets Crushed By Dodgers 10-2 In Game 4 of NLCS Due To Poor Pitching and Lack of Timely Hitting And On Brink of Elimination

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-2 tonight at Citi Field in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series and are now down 3-1 in the series.

LHP Jose Quintana got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to DH Shohei Ohtani.

Quintana was able to have a scoreless top of the second, but then ran into trouble in the top of the third.

He gave up a one-out walk to Ohtani and then gave up a single to the following hitter RF Mookie Betts.

Two batters later, Quintana gave up a RBI double to 2B Tommy Edman and a RBI single to the following hitter 3B Kiki Hernandez.

Quintana stayed in for the top of the fourth and gave up a infield hit to 2B Chris Taylor and walked Ohtani and was then taken out.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and gave up a two-run double to Betts,

Butto stayed in for the top of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning.

In the top of the sixth, Butto walked Ohtani with one out and was then taken out.

RHP Phil Maton came in next and gave up a two-run homer to Betts,

Maton stayed in for the top of the seventh and picked up his first two outs.

LHP Danny Young had to come in to get the last out in the top of the seventh.

Young stayed in for the top of the eighth and gave up a lead-off single to Betts and then walked LF Teoscar Hernandez.

Young then gave up a two-run double to the following hitter Edman and three batters later, a RBI sibgle to catcher Will Smith.

Young stayed in for the top of the ninth and threw a scoreless inning.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after 3B Mark Vientos hit a solo homer.

They had their best chance to score with the based loaded and one out in the bottom of the third, but LF Brandon Nimmo grounded into a fielder's choice and then RF Starling Marte grounded to shortstop to end the inning.

The Met offense was unable to get any timely hit all night going 0-10 with runners in scoring position leaving 12 runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Friday, October 18 at home against the Dodgers at 5:08 p.m.

Mets Shutout By Dodgers 8-0 In Game 3 of NLCS After Offense and Defense Fall Apart

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-0 tonight in Game 3 of the NLCS at Citi Field and are now down 2-1 in the series.

RHP Luis Severino had a nice 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first with two strikeouts, but had a tough top of the second.

Severino gave up a lead-off walk to 3B Max Muncy and then catcher Francisco Alvarez made a throwing error which allowed Muncy to reach second.

Two batters later, Severino then failed to turn a double play on a comebacker back to the mound on a grounder by SS Gavin Lux which allowed LF Tesoscar Hernandez and Muncy to reach second and third.

Severino allowed the following hitter catcher Will Smith to reach on an infield hit which brought home a run.

Severino then gave up a sacrifice fly to the following hitter CF Tommy Edman.

Severino was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth and was taken out with two outs in the top of the fifth.

His final line was 4.2 innings, three hits, two runs (0 earned runs), four walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and struck out Tesoscar Hernandez to end the inning.

Garrett stayed in for the top of the sixth and gave up a two-run homer to 3B Kiki Hernandez and was taken out after the inning.

RHP Tylor Megill followed and threw a scoreless top of the seventh, but in the top of the eighth, he gave up a three-run homer to DH Shohei Ohtani.

Megill stayed in for the top of the ninth and gave up a solo homer to Muncy.

The Met offense wasted numerous scoring opportunities and were unable to come up with a timely hit.

They went 0-4 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, the offense had the based loaded with one out in the bottom of the second, but catcher Francisco Alvarez and SS Francisco Lindor struck out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the third, DH J.D Martinez struck out with two outs and runners on first and second.

In the bottom of the sixth, 2B Jose Iglesias grounded into a double play with two runners on to end the inning and the offense did not have any more threats after that.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, October 17 in Game 4 of the NLCS at home against the Dodgers at 8:08 p.m.

Mets Beat Dodgers 7-3 in Game 2 of NLCS Behind Vientos Grand Slam

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-3 this afternoon at Dodger Stadium to even the National League Championship Series to even the series 1-1.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a homer.

In the top of the second, RF Starling Marte led off with a single and then DH Jesse Winker followed with a walk.

Two batters later, CF Tyrone Taylor drove in Marte with a RBI double.

Two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor was intentionally walked to load the bases and then 3B Mark Vientos came up and broke the game open with a grand slam.

The offense did not do much for the next six innings until the top of the ninth after 1B Pete Alonso walked with one out and then stole second.

Marte followed with a RBI single.

LHP Sean Manaea cruised through the first five innings only allowing a solo homer to 3B Max Muncy, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth.

Manaea gave up a couple of walks and then 2B Jose Iglesias made a costly error which loaded the bases and was then taken out.

His final line was five innings, two hits, three runs, four walks and seven strikeouts.

He picked up his second win of the postseason.

RHP Phil Maton came in next and gave up a two-run single to SS Tommy Edman, but was able to settle down after he got 2B Kiki Hernandez to ground into a double play to end the inning.

Diaz was able to settle down and strikeout Betts, Hernandez and 1B Freddie Freeman to close it out and pick up his second save of the postseason.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Wednesday, October 16 back at Citi Field in Game 3 of the NLCS against the Dodgers at 8:08 p.m.

Mets Shutout By Dodgers 9-0 in Game 1 of NLCS After Senga Struggles And Offense Dominated By Flaherty

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-0 tonight in Game 1 of the NLCS at Dodger Stadium and are now down 1-0 in the series.

RHP Kodai Senga got off to a rough start in the bottom of the first walking RF Mookie Betts, 1B Freddie Freeman and LF Teoscar Hernandez to load the bases.

Two batters later, Senga allowed a two-run single to 3B Max Muncy.

Senga's struggled continued in the bottom of the second after he gave up a lead-off walk to 2B Gavin Lux and two batters later, a RBI single to DH Shohei Ohtani and was then taken out.

His final line was 1.1 innings, two hits, three runs and four walks.

RHP Reed Garrett followed and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

LHP David Peterson came in next and had a difficult bottom of the fourth allowing three runs on a RBI single by SS Tommy Edman and then a RBI single to Ohtani.

Later in the inning, Peterson gave up a RBI single to Freeman.

Peterson threw a scoreless bottom of the fifth and was then taken out.

LHP Danny Young followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Jose Butto came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a bases clearing double to Betts.

The Mets offense was shut down by RHP Jack Flaherty and managed only three hits for the entire game.

They went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Monday, October 14 at the Dodgers at 4:08 p.m in Game 2 of the NLCS.

Mets Beat Phillies 4-1 To Advance to NLCS Powered By Lindor Grand Slam

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 tonight at Citi Field to win the National League Division Series 3-1 and advance to their first National League Championship Series since 2015.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings, squandering several scoring opportunities including with the based loaded in the bottom of the first and second, but then came alive in the bottom of the sixth.

D.H. J.D. Martinez led off with a single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch.

RF Starling Marte then followed with a hit by pitch and both Martinez and Marte advanced to second and third on another wild pitch.

CF Tyrone Taylor then walked to load the bases, but catcher Francisco Alvarez grounded into a fielder's choice.

SS Francisco Lindor came up next and came through once again with the game-winning grand slam.

LHP Jose Quintana had another terrific start allowing one unearned run on two hits in five innings.

He gave up two walks with six strikeouts.

Reed Garrett came in next and picked up two outs in the top of the sixth.

LHP David Peterson followed and had an outstanding performance with 2.1 scoreless innings.

He gave up two hits and no walks with one strikeout.

Peterson picked up his first win of the postseason.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and struggled initially walking the first two hitters he faced, but then settled down after that.

Diaz struck out pinch-hitter Kody Clemens and then retired CF Brandon Marsh on a fly out to center field.

Diaz then struck out DH Kyle Schwarber on a 101 mph fastball to close out the game and the series and picked up his first save of the postseason.

The Mets now look ahead to the National League Championship Series and will be on the road against either the San Diego Padres or Los Angeles Dodgers starting on Sunday, October 13.

Mets Beat Phillies 7-2 in Game 3 of NLDS Behind Stellar Start From Manaea

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 tonight at Citi Field to take a 2-1 games lead in the National League Division Series.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, 1B Pete Alonso drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the second.

In the bottom of the fourth, DH Jesse Winker also hit a solo homer.

After a scoreless bottom of the fifth, 3B Mark Vientos singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth and then LF Brandon Nimmo and Alonso followed with walks to load the bases.

2B Jose Iglesias then grounded into a fielder's choice and Winker flew out, but then RF Starling Marte came up and broke the game open with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Vientos reached on an infield hit with two outs and then was pinch-run for Harrison Bader who stole second.

Nimmo and Alonso then walked once again to load the bases and Iglesias drove in two much needed insurance runs with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the eighth, pinch-hitter J.D. Martinez led off with a walk and two batters later, CF Tyrone Taylor grounded into a fielder's choice.

Two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor capped off the scoring with a RBI double.

LHP Sean Manaea had an outstanding start shutting out the Phillies for the first seven innings.

Manaea came back out for the top of the eighth and gave up an infield hit to 2B Edmundo Sosa and was taken out.

His final line was seven innings, three hits, one run, two walks and six strikeouts.

Manaea had 19 swings and misses.

He mixed in all of his pitches well and had his fastball, slider and change-up all working well.

Manaea picked up his first win of the postseason.

RHP Phil Maton came on in the top of the eighth and gave up a RBI single to 1B Bryce Harper and recorded only two outs.

RHP Ryne Stanek followed and gave up a RBI single to RF Nick Castellanos, but was able to get the last four outs to close it out.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, October 9 at home against the Phillies at 5:08 p.m.

Mets Lose to Phillies 7-6 in Game 2 of NLDS After Blowing Late Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 7-6 this afternoon in Game 2 of NLDS and now the series is tied at 1-1 each.

RHP Luis Severino cruised through the first five innings and then ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth.

Severino retired the first two hitters he faced and then gave up a single to SS Trea Turner and a two-run homer to the following hitter 1B Bryce Harper and a solo homer to the following hitter RF Nick Castellanos and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, six hits, three runs, 0 walks and seven strikeouts.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and picked up two outs while also allowing a hit by pitch and walk and was taken out.

RHP Edwin Diaz came in next and struck out DH Kyle Schwarber to end the inning.

Diaz stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and walked Harper with one out and then gave up a single to Castellanos.

Diaz gave up a two-run triple to the following hitter 2B Bryson Stott and was taken out after that.

RHP Tylor Megill came in next and gave up a RBI ground-out to catcher J.T. Realmuto and then retiring the next two hitters he faced.

Megill stayed in for the bottom of the ninth and retired the first two hitters he faced before walking Turner and Harper and then giving up the walk-off single to Castellanos.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after SS Francisco Lindor singled with one out and then 3B Mark Vientos followed with a two-run homer.

In the top of the sixth, 1B Pete Alonso led off with a solo homer.

In the top of the seventh, LF Brandon Nimmo hit a solo homer.

In the top of the ninth, Lindor singled again with one out and then Vientos followed with another two-run homer to tie the game.

The Mets offense struggled all game with timely hits and went 0-7 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action back at home at Citi Field on Tuesday, October 8 in Game 3 of the NLDS at 5:08 p.m.

Mets Rally To Beat Phillies 6-2 in Game 1 of NLDS with Five-Run Eighth Inning And Stellar Bullpen

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 in Game 1 of the National League Division Series this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park to take a 1-0 series lead.

The Met offense was shutdown by RHP Zack Wheeler for the first seven innings, managing only one hit and three walks, but came alive in the top of the eighth against the bullpen.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a single and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk.

3B Mark Vientos then drove in pinch-runner Harrison Bader with a RBI single.

LF Brandon Nimmo followed with the go-ahead RBI single to score Lindor.

1B Pete Alonso then hit a sacrifice fly which scored Vientos.

2B Jose Iglesias followed with a single to advance Nimmo to second.

Pinch-hitter J.D. Martinez then drove in Nimmo with a RBI single.

RF Starling Marte followed with a sacrifice fly which scored Iglesias.

In the top of the ninth, Bader led off with a single and stole second.

Two batters later, Nimmo drove in Bader for his second RBI of the game.

RHP Kodai Senga made his first and only start of the season since July 26 before straining a calf muscle and gave up a lead-off homer to DH Kyle Schwarber in the bottom of the first, but then settled down after that.

Senga had a scoreless bottom of the second and was taken out after the inning with 31 pitches.

His final line was two innings, one hit, one run, one walk and three strikeouts.

LHP David Peterson followed with three scoreless innings in the bottom of the third, fourth and fifth innings.

RHP Reed Garrett threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.

Garrett picked up the win.

RHP Phil Maton threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Ryne Stanek gave up a RBI double to pinch-hitter Kody Clemens in the bottom of the ninth, and then came back to pick up the last three outs.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, October 6 at the Phillies at 4:08 p.m.

Mets Rally To Beat Brewers 4-2 to Advance to NLDS Powered By Alonso Three-Run Homer

The New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 tonight at American Family Field to win the National League Wild Card Series 2 games to 1 to advance to the National League Division Series

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first eight innings, but then came alive in the top of the ninth.

SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and two batters later, LF Brandon Nimmo singled.

1B Pete Alonso came up next and delivered the biggest hit in his career with a three-run homer off Brewers closer RHP Devin Williams to right field after he struggled in his previous three at-bats and for the first two games.

Two batters later, DH Jesse Winker was hit by a pinch and then stole second.

RF Starling Marte followed by driving in Winker with a RBI single for a much needed insurance run.

LHP Jose Quintana had a spectacular start with six scoreless innings.

He gave up four hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

RHP Jose Butto came in next in the bottom of the seventh and an uncharacteristic poor outing allowing back-to-back homers to pinch-hitter Jake Bowers and RF Sal Frelick and was then taken out with one out in the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz followed and picked up the last two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Diaz stayed in for the the bottom of the eighth and had a scoreless inning to pick up the win.

LHP David Peterson came on in the bottom of the ninth and had his first career save in a win or Go Home Playoff game.

The Mets now look ahead to the National League Division Series at the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, October 8 at 4:08 p.m.

Mets Lose To Brewers 5-3 in Game 2 of WC Series After Blowing Eighth Inning Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 5-3 tonight at American Family Field to tie up the National League Wild Card series at 1-1.

LHP Sean Manaea got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to LF Jackson Churio.

Manaea was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth.

Manaea gave up a lead-off double to 2B Brice Tarang and after a ground-out by Chourio, he then gave up a sac fly to CF Blake Perkins and was taken out after the inning.

Manaea's final line was five innings, six hits, two runs, 0 walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a lead-off homer to Churio and then a single to Perkins.

Maton was then able to get catcher Wilson Contreras to ground into a double play, but then gave up a single to SS Willy Adames and then allowed a two-run homer to pinch-hitter Garrett Mitchell.

The Met offense got on the board immediately in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and two batters later, 3B Mark Vientos reached on an infield hit and LF Brandon Nimmo came through with a RBI single.

In the top of the second, RF Starling Marte reached on an error by RHP Frankie Montas with one out and then CF Tyrone Taylor followed with a single.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez then drove in Marte with a RBI single and Lindor followed with a sacrifice fly.

2B Jose Iglesias singled to load the bases, but Vientos flew out to right to end the threat.

The offense was not able to score any more runs wasting several scoring opportunities that could have put the game away.

They went 2-11 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, October 3 at the Brewers at 8:38 p.m.

Mets Beat Brewers 8-4 In Game 1 of Wild Card Round Behind Five-Run Fifth Inning

The New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 this afternoon at American Family Field to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three Wild Card series.

After a scoreless top of the first, 3B Mark Vientos singled to lead off the top of the second and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a walk.

DH Jesse Winker then drove in Vientos and Alonso with a two-run triple and RF Starling Marte followed with a sacrifice fly.

The Met offense did not score in the top of the third and fourth, but then came alive again in the top of the fifth.

CF Tyrone Taylor doubled with one out and two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor walked.

2B Jose Iglesias then reached on an infield hit due to his hustle to first base which brought in the tyring run.

LF Brandon Nimmo followed with also reaching on an infield hit to load the bases and then Vientos delivered the go-ahead two-run single to score Iglesias and Lindor.

Vientos then advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Alonso followed with a intentional walk and then pinch-hitter J.D. Martinez came up and broke the game open with a two-run single.

RHP Luis Severino got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after giving up two runs on a RBI single by catcher Wilson Contreras and hit 1B Rhys Hoskins to bring in another run.

Severino had scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third, but then ran into more trouble in the bottom of the fourth.

He gave up a RBI single to LF Jackson Chourio and a RBI ground-out by Contreras.

Severino was able to settle down after that and finish up strong with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth and was taken out after that.

His final line was six innings, eight hits, four runs (three earned), two walks and three strikeouts.

He picked up the win.

RHP Jose Butto followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth.

RHP Ryne Stanek closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.
