The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 8-2 tonight for their five consecutive loss and have now dropped their record to 8-12. RHP Robert Gsellman got the start after originally being scheduled to pitch tomorrow. Gsellman was in immediate trouble in the top of the first inning. He allowed five runs on four hits. He also gave up two walks and had to work around a throwing error all in the first inning. After the difficult first inning, Gsellman settled down and allowed no runs for his last three innings. Gsellman went four plus innings allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits. He had two strikeouts and three walks. In addition to Gsellman's struggles on the mound, he was let down by his defense, who committed three errors on the night. LHP Josh Edgin came in next and allowed a run in the top of the fifth inning and stayed in for the top of the sixth and record the first two outs. RHP Fernando Salas followed and was able to record the last out in the top of the sixth. Salas stayed on for the top of the seventh and allowed two runs on three hits. LHP Jerry Blevins had to come in and relieve Salas and finish off the top of the seventh inning. RHP Hansel Robles was the last pitcher of the game and pitched two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth.
The Mets offense struggled against Braves starter RHP Julio Tehran. They managed to have only five hits and four walks. The only runs they were able to score were on a sacrifice fly by 2B Neil Walker in the bottom of the fourth inning and a sacrifice fly by catcher Rene Rivera in the bottom of the seventh inning.
