Jacob deGrom Wins National League Cy Young Award

New York Mets RHP Jacob deGrom was awarded the National League Cy Young tonight in a landslide victory with 29-out-of 30 first place votes. deGrom became the fourth Mets pitcher to win Cy Young alongside Tom Seaver in 1969, 1973, and 1975, Dwight Gooden in 1985, and R.A. Dickey in 2012. He had a record of 10-9 in 32 starts with a major-leading leading ERA of 1.70, 269 strikeouts, 46 walks and allowed only 10 home runs.  His 0.91 WHIP was tied for the National League lead with Cy-Young finalist Nationals starter RHP Max Scherizer. He set all-time Major League records for 25 consecutive quality starts 29 consecutive starts with three runs or fewer. It was a joy watching deGrom pitch this year and one will be remembered for years to come.

Mets Hitting Coach Pat Roessler Will Not Return

Hitting Coach Pat Roessler


The New York Mets announced today that hitting coach Pat Roessler will not return. Roessler was hired as the assistant hitting coach in 2015. He was promoted to bead hitting coach in 2017 after Kevin Long left for the Washington Nationals last offseason. The Mets offense averaged only 4.17 runs per game last year and had a franchise-high 1,404 strikeouts.
