The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs in a dramatic 4-3 win to snap 4 game losing streak and improve their record to 41-37. They remain 6 games behind the Washington Nationals for first place in the National League East. LHP Steven Matz gave up 3 runs in 5 1/3 innings and had six strikeouts. After Matz was taken out, RHP Erik Goedell came and threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. He picked up his first win of the season. RHP Addison Reed got the first two outs of the eighth innings. LHP Jerry Blevins got the last out of the eighth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless ninth despite having second and third and no one out still managed to pick up his 27th save of the season.
The Mets offense was scoreless until the sixth inning, but finally put a run on the board when CF Yoenis Cespedes hit his 19th homer of the season. Rookie RF Brandon Nimmo hit an RBI single, his first RBI of his career. 2B Neil Walker hit a fielder's choice which brought home a run. Nimmo also scored on a throwing error, which brought home the go-ahead run and proved to be the difference in the game.

Mets Promote RHP Seth Lugo
The New York Mets are promoting RHP Seth Lugo from Triple-A with the Las Vegas 51s today. LHP Sean Gilmartin will be optioned back to Triple A. Lugo has spent time in the rotation and was recently demoted to the bullpen in Triple-A. Since going to the bullpen on June 5th, he has posted an ERA of 4.00 in nine innings. Lugo has an arsenal of four pitches and a fastball that tops out at 94 miles per hour. His best pitch is his curveball and is so effective that Baseball America said he had the best curveball in the Mets minor league system. He is rated as the Mets twelfth best prospect according to MetsMerized.

Mets vs. Nationals Game 77 Recap
The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 4-2 for their fifth consecutive loss and drop their record to 40-37. They are now 6 games behind the Nationals for first place in the National League East. RHP Logan Verrett gave up 2 runs in 5 innings in a spot start. He allowed 4 hits and 4 walks. He picked up his fifth loss of the season. LHP Sean Gilmartin gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, on a 2 run homer by former Met 2B Daniel Murphy, which was his second of the game. The Mets offense was shutout until the ninth inning. The only two runs they scored was on a 2 run homer by first baseman James Loney. They continue to look lifeless at the plate and are in a need of spark. Hopefully Jose Reyes and Juan Lagares are called up from Binghamton in the next couple of days. They need to have speed at the top of the order. Reyes and Lagares are the kind of players that they can give the team the life and energy that they've been searching for all season.

Mets vs. Nationals Game 76 Recap
The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 5-0 to lose their third consecutive game and drop their record to 40-36. They are now 5 games behind the Nationals for first place in the National League East. RHP Matt Harvey gave up one run in only 3 2/3 innings, due to two rain delays. He gave up four hits and three walks. He had three strikeouts. With that loss, Harvey is now 4-10 on the season. It's a shame he has unable to get any run support in his last few starts. After Harvey was taken out, LHP Jerry Blevins gave up 2 runs on a 2 run homer by RF Bryce Harper. RHP Hansel Robles also gave up 2 runs on a 2 run double by catcher Wilson Ramos. The Mets offense managed just five hits and struggled against Nationals rookie pitcher Lucas Giolito, who made his MLB debut last night. This has been a recurring theme for the offense. If the bats don't wake up soon, this Met team could fall out of playoff contention very soon.

Mets vs. Braves Game 73 Recap
The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 1-0 in 11 innings to win their second consecutive game and improve their record to 40-33. They are now only 2 games out of first place in the National League East after the Washington Nationals lost their seventh consecutive game tonight. 2B Kelly Johnson drove in the only run of the game with a solo home run in the top of the eleventh inning. RHP Jacob deGrom was outstanding with 8 shutout innings. He gave up 8 hits and one hit. He had 6 strikeouts. It's a shame he wasn't able to get any run support and get a win. He deserved to get one after his performance. It's been the story of deGrom's story, since he hasn't had a win since April 30th. He's been far better than his record shows. After deGrom was taken out, LHP Jerry Blevins got the first out in the bottom of the ninth inning. RHP Addison Reed came in after that and got the lasr 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth as well as a scoreless bottom of the tenth innings. In all, he pitched a total of 1 2/3 scoreless innings and picked up his second win of the season. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless eleventh inning and picked up his 26th save of the season.

Mets Sign Free Agent Jose Reyes
The New York Mets have signed free-agent former shortstop Jose Reyes to a minor league deal. Reyes was previously on the Mets from 2003-2011. He is the franchise's all-time leader in triples and stolen bases. He was a four-time All-Star. He lead the National League in triples in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2011. He also lead the National League in stolen bases in 2005, 2006, and 2008. He is the only Met to have won a batting title with a .337 average in 2011. After Reyes left the Mets as a free agent in 2011, he signed with the Miami Marlins for 6 years and $106 million, He was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays the following season. He played for the Blue Jays until 2015 where he was traded to the Colarado Rockies. During this past offseason, Reyes was charged with domestic violence while on vacation with his wife in Hawaii. He was suspended by the Colorado Rockies without pay until May 31st and missed the first 51 games of the season under the new Major League Baseball domestic violence policy. On May 31st, he was sent to the Rockies Triple-A affiliate in Albequerque for a rehab assignment. He was reinstated from the restricted list and was designated for assignment for the Rockies on June 15th. Reyes will start playing for the Brooklyn Cyclones tomorrow and should be back playing for the Mets in a couple of weeks. Reyes will provide the Mets with energy and speed on the bases, which is something they've lacked all season. He will be a great influence on the field and in the clubhouse.
Mets Promote Brandon Nimmo and Option Michael Conforto to Las Vegas
The New York Mets have promoted outfielder Brandon Nimmo from Triple-A Las Vegas. Nimmo had a batting average of .328 for the 51s with an on-base percentage of .409 and a slugging percentage of .508. He had 16 doubles, seven triples, five homers and 37 RBI. Nimmo was the first draft pick chosen by Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson. He was drafted 13th overall in the first round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft. As a corresponding roster move, LF Michael Conforto was sent down to Triple A. Conforto has been in a long slump and has hit only .148 in his last 142 at- bats. This was the right move since he has lost his confidence at the Major League level. He will benefit from getting away from the New York spotlight and all of the sctrunity he has been under during his slump. Conforto will be just fine and will work on getting his old swing back and hitting the ball to the opposite field. He will hit well in Triple-A and come back to the Mets a much improved hitter. He won't need to be down in the minor leagues for very long. Conforto will make adjustments and be back with the Mets in a short amount of time.

Catcher Travis d'arnuad had 3 RBI's with a groundout and 2 run single. 1B James Loney hit a 3 run homer. LHP Steven Matz hit a sacrifice fly. Matz only went 4 1/3 innings where he gave up 6 runs. He had no walks and no strikeouts. Matz was rubbing his elbow before the bottom of the inning and was taken out after that. Hopefully it's nothing serious. It's something that the Mets and their medical staff have to keep on due to his history of elbow problems. After Matz was taken out, RHP Hansel Robles came in and continued his outstanding week with 2 2/3 scoreless innings. He gave 0 walks and 0 hits and had 2 strikeouts. He picked up his 2nd win of the season. LHP Antonio Bastardo got the first 2 outs in the eighth. RHP Jeurys Familia got the last 4 outs and picked up his 25th save of the season.

The New York Mets defeated the Kansas City Royals 4-3 this afternoon to complete the 2 game sweep. RHP Noah Syndergarrd gave up 3 runs in 6 innings. He allowed 8 hits, but had 0 walks. He had 4 strikeouts. He picked up his 8th win of the season. Syndergarrd had to come out after 6 innings due to discomfort in his elbow. Hopefully this isn't too serious since he had elbow discomfort earlier in the season. LHP Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless 7th inning. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless 8th inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless 9th and picked up his 24th save. 1B James Loney hit an RBI single. SS Asdrubal Cabrera hit a 2 run homer. LF Matt Reynolds hit the go-ahead home run in the seventh inning. In addition to Syndergarrd coming out of the game due to elbow discomfort. CF Yoenis Cespedes left the game with a sore right wrist. Hopefully these injuries aren't too serious. The Mets can't afford to lose either of them for a significant amount of time. That would be a huge blow to the team's playoff chances.

Mets vs. Royals Game 69 Recap
The New York Mets defeated the Kansas City Royals 2-1 tonight to snap their 3 game losing streak and improve their record to 37-32. Mets starter RHP Bartolo Colon came out after facing only one batter in the first inning after being hit on the right thumb. RHP Hansel Robles came in after Colon was taken and pitched 3 2/3 outstanding innings. He allowed just one run on 5 hits and one walk. He had 6 strikeouts. He picked up his first win of the season. RHP Erik Goedeel came in next and pitched 2 scoreless innings. LHP Jerry Blevins had a scoreless 7th inning. RHP Addison Reed pitched a scoreless 8th inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless ninth inning and picked up his 23th save of the season. The offense produced two solo homers by CF Yoenis Cespedes and SS Asdrubal Cabrera which was enough run support for the bullpen. This was a huge win for the Mets since they had to go to the pen much earlier than expected. Hopefully RHP Noah Syndergarrd can provide them some length tomorrow and go deep in the game in order to give the relievers some rest.

Mets Place Jim Henderson on DL
The New York Mets have placed RHP Jim Henderson on the disabled list with right biceps tendinitis and have recalled LHP Sean Gilmartin from Triple-A Las Vegas. Henderson was originally diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement and was thought to be day to day. Gilmartin had a record of 8-3 in Triple A with an ERA of 4.48 in 12 starts for the 51s this year. He had 19 walks and 68 strikeouts. Gilmartin pitched 5 scoreless innings for the Mets earlier this year. He had a record of 3-2 with a 2.67 ERA in 50 games for the Mets last year.
Mets Activitate Travis d'Arnaud off DL
The New York Mets have officially activated catcher Travis d'Arnaud from the disabled list. Catcher Kevin Plawecki has been sent down to Triple-A in Las Vegas. Hopefully d'Arnaud will be able to provide some pop to the offense. They need d'Arnaud to step it up along with Yoenis Cespedes and Michael Conforto.

Mets vs. Braves Game 68 Recap
The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 6-0 to lose their third consecutive games and get swept in the 3 game series. RHP Jacob deGrom gave up 3 runs in 6 innings to take the loss. He gave up 5 hits and gave up one walk. He had 5 strikeouts. DeGrom has now gone nine consecutive starts without a win. He has not gotten the run support he needs in order to pick up any wins in the last 9 starts. It's frustrating that degrom has had his great starts wasted by the ineptitude of the offense. After deGrom was taken out, LHP Antonio Bastardo came in and gave up 2 runs in the seventh inning. RHP Hansel Robles gave up a run in the eighth. The offense managed just 1 hit off Braves starter RHP Julio Tehran who pitched a complete game shutout. The Mets scored only 4 runs in 3 games in this series. They need to do something to get the offense going again. LF Michael Conforto might have to get sent down to Triple-A. He has struggled for almost 2 months. They could also call up 2B Dilson Herrera. They need to make moves soon before it's too late and the NL East and the wild-card race is too far out of reach.

Mets vs. Braves Game 67 Recap
The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 4-3 tonight to lose their second consecutive game and drop their record to 36-31. LHP Steven Matz gave up 2 runs in 6 innings. He gave up 4 hits and 2 walks. He had 7 strikeouts. He picked the no-decision. RHP Jim Henderson gave up a run in the seventh inning. RHP Addison Reed gave up a run in the eighth and took the loss. This is the second consecutive outing for Reed where he gave up a run after not allowing a run since April 30th. Reed was bound to have a slump sooner or later after having a dominant stretch over the last month or so. The offfense had 2 solo homer by CF Yoenis Cespedes and 3B Wilmer Flores. Catcher Rene Rivera added a sacrifice fly. The Mets had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, but Flores was thrown out at home plate trying to score from first base on a double by 1B James Loney. It was a poor decision by third base coach Tim Teufel to send Flores with no out in the inning, and it wound up costing the Mets the game. Hopefully this type of baserunning mistake won't happen again and that Teufel and Flores both learn from this.

RHP Erik Goedell gave up an unearned run in the eighth inning on an error by CF Yoenis Cespedes. The Mets offense struggled after 2 breakout games and managed only 6 hits. Mets vs. Pirates Game 64 Recap
The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight 11-2 to snap their 3 game losing streak and improve their record to 35-29. They remain 5 games out of first place in the National League East after the Washington Nationals defeated the Chicago Cubs. The Mets offense exploded for a season high 19 hits. 7 players had multi-hit games. 3B Wilmer Flores had 2 hits with 4 RBI's. Flores hit an RBI groundout, RBI single and 2 run homer. It was an encouraging day for Flores and has started to gain more confidence at the plate since he has become the every day 3B after David Wright got hurt. 2B Matt Reynolds had 3 hits with 2 RBI's. Reynolds hit a key 2 run double in the first inning to make it a 3-0 game. He has hit well since being called up and has earned the right to have more playing time. LF Kelly Johnson had 2 RBI's with a single and homer. This was Johnson's first homer with the Mets. Catcher Rene Rivera hit 2 RBI singles. He has done a great job behind the plate calling a game and his offense has been better than expected. He needs to remain the backup catcher once Travis d'Arnaud returns next week. 1B James Loney added an RBI double. RHP Noah Syndergarrd had his most dominant start of the year giving up just 1 run and 5 hits in 8 1/3 innings. He had 11 strikeouts and 0 walks. His fastball was as high as 100 miles per hour and was also mixing in a slider at 92 miles per hour. At one point during the game, Syndergarrd retired 17 Pirate hitters in a row. He has emerged as one of the best pitchers in the game. After Syndergarrd was taken out, RHP Jeurys Familia came in and picked up the last 2 outs.

Mets vs. Pirates Game 63 Recap
The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0 to lose their third consecutive game and drop their record to 34-29. They remain 5 games out of first place in the National League East after the Washington Nationals lost to the Chicago Cubs. RHP Jacob deGrom gave up 2 runs in 6 innings and took the loss. He allowed 1 walk, but had 9 strikeouts. After deGrom was taken out, RHP Jim Henderson came in the seventh inning and gave up a 2 run homer to Starling Marte. The Mets offense struggled all night and had only 3 hits. They managed to have just 2 hits and 1 walk against Pirates rookie RHP Jammeson Tailon, who was making his second career start. The offense has really struggled lately and having 5 starters out of the lineup last night caused the lineup to appear to look lifeless. Hopefully, some of the injured starters such as Travis d'Arnaud and Michael Conforto are able to return to the lineup soon and help get the offense back on track.

Mets Option Logan Verrett to Triple-A
The New York Mets have sent RHP Logan Verrett to Triple-A in Las Vegas and have called reliever RHP Erik Goeddel. Verett was sent down since the Mets needed a fresh arm out of the bullpen for today's game. Verrett gave up 5 runs yesterday on four hits and four walks. Goeddel has struggled in Triple-A with an ERA of 4.94, a WHIP of 1.563 and has given up 4.9 walks per 9 innings. He has allowed 37 baserunners in 23.2 innings pitched. Hopefully Goeddel can pitch better in the Major Leagues and become another reliable option for the Mets to use in the bullpen.

RHP Logan Verrett got the spot start today and gave up 5 runs in only 4 innings. Verrett allowed 4 hits with 4 walks and allowed 3 home runs. He wasn't able to go deep into the game and gave the bullpen some rest. Hopefully Verrett bounces back from this start. RHP Hansel Robles came in and threw two scoreless innings. LHP Antonio Bastardo came in in the seventh inning and gave up back to back homers to Scooter Gennett and Ryan Bruan. Last night, the New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 in 11 innings. They have now won three consecutive games and remain 2.5 games behind the Washington Nationals for first place in the National League East. RHP Matt Harvey gave up 1 run in 6 innings and picked up the no-decision. He gave up only 2 hits and 2 walks. He had 8 strikeouts. This was the third consecutive outstanding start for Harvey. His velocity and slider have returned to form. It's a huge sigh of relief after he had gotten off to a such rough start earlier this year. After Harvey was taken out, RHP Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless seventh inning. LHP Antonio Bastardo pitched a scoreless eighth inning. RHP Jim Henderson pitched a scoreless ninth inning against his former team and came out for the tenth inning, but he had to leave the game due to a blister issue. LHP Jerry Blevins came in and finished the inning. RHP Jeurys Familia pitched a dominant 1-2-3 eleventh inning and picked up his 21st save of the year. He is now 21 for 21 on save opportunities this year and has recorded his last 37 consecutive saves in the regular season. The Mets offense struggled all night with runners in scoring position, but IF Matt lined into a bizarre force out play in the eleventh inning which brought home a run. CF Yoenis Cespedes hit his sixteenth home run of the season.

Mets Select Anthony Kay with 31th Pick in First Round
Last night, the New York Mets selected LHP Anthony Kay out of UCONN with the 31st pick in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft. Kay went 9-2 this year in 17 starts with an ERA of 2.65. He had 263 strikeouts, which set a UCONN strikeout record that was previously held by Matt Barnes, who now plays for the Red Sox. Kay was also drafted by the Mets in 2013 out of Ward Melville High School, which is the same high that Steven Matz went to. Kay's fastball ranges from 90-95 miles per hour. His best pitch is his changeup which he can throw from 82-86 miles per hour. He might have the best changeup in the entire draft. It's a very effective pitch, especially against right-handed hitters. In addition to his changeup and fastball, he also features a a curveball. His curveball has a tight spin and sharp break and is thought to have average potential. He throws it between 79-81 miles per hour. He doesn't throw his curveball nearly as often as he uses his chanegup. Kay has solid command and is projected to be a three-pitch pitcher. He models his game after Yankee great LHP Andy Pettitte. The Mets are hoping that Kay is able to have the type of career that Pettitte had.
Mets Draft Justin Dunn With 19th Pick in First Round
Last night, the New York Mets selected RHP Justin Dunn out of Boston College with the 19th overall pick in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft. Dunn is 6'2" and weighs 185 pounds. His best pitch is his fastball, which ranges from 92-95 miles per hour, but he can throw up it as hard as 98-99 miles per hour. In addition to his fastball, Dunn features two other breaking balls, a solid hard slider and a three quarters-curve. He has an average changeup, which he will use on occasion. His command can be inconsistent as times, but his dominant stuff can help make up for it. He is compared to Royals starter Yordano Ventura for his athleticism and that he is a right-hander who is somewhat undersized.

Mets Reacquire Kelly Johnson
The New York Mets have reacquired 2B Kelly Johnson from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for pitching prospect Akeel Morris. The Mets also traded for Johnson last July for minor league pitchers John Gant and Rob Whalen, but left the Mets in the offseason as a free agent. This trade will help the Mets since Johnson can play multiple positions and bring versatility to the Mets lineup. Johnson can play first base, second base, shortstop, third base, and all 3 outfield positions. This was the perfect move for the Mets to make since Johnson play third base while David Wright is out and can also play some first base with Wilmer Flores and James Loney until Lucas Duda comes back. Johnson will replace Eric Campbell as the Mets super utility man.

Mets vs. Pirates Game 57 Recap
The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1 tonight again to lose both games of the doubleheader. RHP Jacob deGrom gave up 3 runs in 6 innings and took the loss. He gave up 6 hits, but had 9 strikeouts. His record is now 3-2 and his ERA increased to 2.80. The Mets offense struggled once again and manged only 1 run on 4 hits. The only run they were able to score was on a RBI catcher by catcher Kevin Plawecki. The offense is in a major funk right now and scored only 2 runs combined in both games of the doubleheader. All of the Mets bats have gone cold at the same time. Manager Terry Collins needs to do something to shake things and try to get the offense going. Tomorrow he could try and have OF Alendandro De Aza bat leaoff and move Curtis Granderson down in the order. This would allow him to have more speed at the top of the order and try to generate some stolen bases which could lead to some runs. It's worth a shot since the Mets offense has been searching for answers for a while now.

Mets vs. White Sox Game 52 Recap
The New York Mets lost to the Chicago White Sox today 2-1 in 13 innings to drop their record to 29-23 and to lose 2 out of 3 in the series. RHP Jacob deGrom gave up only 1 run in 7 innings. He gave up 5 hits and 2 walks. He had a season-high 10 strikeouts. It was the best deGrom has looked this season. It's a shame that he couldn't get any run support. He deserved to win this game. After deGrom was taken out, RHP Addison Reed, Jeurys Familia, Hansel Robles Jim Henderson and Logan Verrett combined to pitch four scoreless innings. However in the top of the thirteenth, Verrett gave up a sacrifice fly to 1B Jose Abreu to give the White Sox the lead and take the loss. The Mets offense was awful today and manged to score only 1 run, despite having 20 baserunners. Catcher Rene Rivera drove in the only run with an RBI single. They drew 13 walks and had 7 hits. It's unacceptable that their offense has become this bad. They can't keep having guys like Ty Kelly in the every day lineup. They need to get a legitimate third basemen to back up David Wright, instead of relying on Kelly or Eric Campbell. It's unfair to the rest of the team and the fans to have to watch an offense like this. This awesome pitching staff deserves a lot better than to have their great outings wasted by a lack of runs. General Sandy Alderson can't wait too much longer to make moves to upgrade this offense, otherwise the Washington Nationals might start to run away with the division.
