The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants tonight 3-0 in the National League Wild Card and are now eliminated from the MLB playoffs. RHP Noah Syndergarrd started the game and pitched 7 outstanding scoreless innings. He allowed 3 hits and gave up 2 walks. He had 10 strikeouts. He picked up a no-decision. RHP Addison Reed came in next and pitched a scoreless eighth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia allowed 3 runs in the top of the ninth inning on a three run homer by 3B Conor Gillapsie.
The Mets offense was unable to generate any runs off Giants starter LHP Madison Bumgarter who pitched a complete game shutout. He showed tonight why he is one of the best postseason pitchers in baseball. They managed only 4 hits and 2 walks.
This is a tough way for the Mets season to end, but they have a lot to be proud off. They overcame a lot of injuries this year and still managed to make the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Hopefully they can build off the success this year and come back healthy next year. It will be an interesting offseason to see what moves the Mets will make.
