Daniel Murphy Returns To Mets Lineup

The Mets have activated Daniel Murphy off the DL and is back in the lineup tonight playing 3B. Dilson Herrera was sent down as corresponding roster move. This will help the Mets get some more offense back in the lineup. They've missed Murph's bat and the offense has really struggled since he went down.

Did Steven Matz Have The Best MLB Debut Ever?

Yesterday, Mets LHP Steven Matz had a storybook debut that was something out of a Hollywood script. In front of many family and friends, he pitched 7 1/3 outstanding innings. He only gave up 2 runs with 2 solo homers to Brandon Phillips and Todd Frazier. He was mixing in all of his pitches and showed off his fastball and curveball. However, the real story of Matz's debut was his bat. He became the first Mets pitcher to go for 3-3 in his debut with 4 RBIs. He had a 2 run double and 2 run single. With the way the Mets offense has been going, Matz needed to drive in all the runs he could. It was so exciting to see Matz dominate on the mound and at the plate. I think it was the best MLB debut a pitcher has ever had. It was a wonderful start for Steven Matz and I think there will be many more exciting moments in the future. The future is very bright for him and all of the Mets other star young pitchers.

Mets Top Prospect Steven Matz Makes His MLB Debut Today

Today, Mets top pitching prospect LH Steven Matz makes his long-awaited debut against the Cincinnati Reds. Matz grew up in Stony Brook, NY as a die-hard Mets fan. He remembers watching Endy Chavez's catch in Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS. He was a first round pick in the 2009 draft out of Ward Medville, HS. He lost 3 years in the minor leagues after having to undergo Tommy John Surgery. After recovering from Tommy John, he rose quickly through each level of the Minor Leagues. This year pitching for the Las Vegas 51's in Triple A, he posted a record of 7-4 with an ERA of 2.19 and 94 strikeouts in 90 1/3 innings. There has been a lot of hype about Matz and he has been compared to superstar lefties Madison Bumgarter and Clayton Kershaw. Hopefully Matz can live up to the tremendous hype placed on him and become another terrific young pitching in the Mets prospect along with Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey, and Noah Syndergarrd.

The Brillance of Jacob DeGrom

Mets starter Jacob deGrom continued his dominant stretch today pitching 8 shutout innings. He picked up his 8th win and is now 8-5 with a 2.15 ERA. He has allowed 2 runs or less in his last 8 starts. If not for the bullpen blowing one of his starts and a bad play by Wilmer Flores, he could have 10 wins. He has mixing in all of his pitches so well. He has been the ace of the staff. The way he's been pitching, he will most likely add an All-Star game appearance to his resume as well as Rookie of the Year. What an amazing start of a career considering he only came up last May.

Mets Call Up Logan Vereet And Send Akeel Morris To Double A

The Mets announced last night that they are calling up Logan Verrett from Triple A in Las Vegas. They have demoted Akeel Morris to Double A after a poor performance last night where he gave up 5 runs. Vereet was on the Texas Rangers earlier this year and was reacquired by the Mets. Hopefully he help add some depth to the pen and eat some innings.

Could Bobby Parnell Emerge As the Setup Man?

Last night, Mets reliever Bobby Parnell picked up his first save since 2013. He was thrown right into the fire in the 8th inning and wound up getting a 5 out save. This is a huge step forward for Parnell since he had just come off Tommy John Surgery. His velocity is not quite there yet, but he has a sharp knuckle curve to keep hitters off balanced. I think that Parnell will only continue to get better. The Mets are counting on him to be the set up man to Jeurys Familia since Vic Black is most likely not coming back anytime soon. I think that Parnell is more than up for the challenge.

Mets Desiginate Dillon Gee For Assignment

The Mets announced today that they are designating Dillon Gee for assignment. He was 0-3 this year with a 5.90 ERA. In six seasons with the team, he posted  a record of 40-37 with an ERA of 4.03. Yesterday, he gave up 8 runs against the Atlanta Braves. It's no secret the Mets and Gee have been odds the last couple of seasons. They tried to trade him last offseason to the Texas Rangers, but weren't able to close the deal. This year, after a poor start, the Mets moved Gee to the bullpen, but had go back to being a starter for yesterday's game. I think this is the right move for the Mets and Gee. Both parties needed to move to one another. It's a shame that Gee went from being a solid 5th starter a few seasons ago to the worst starter on the team.

Mets Call Up Reliever Akeel Morris From Single A

The Mets announced yesterday that they are going to bring up RHP Akeel Morris from Single A in St. Lucie. Morris, 22 was drafted out of 2010 First-Year player draft. He graduated from Charlotte Amalie High School in U.S. Virgin Islands. He has spent the last 6 years in Single A. In 2015, with St. Lucie, he posted a record of 0-1 with a record of 0-1 and 12 saves along with a 1.74 ERA in 23 games. This move will help provide an extra arm in the bullpen since our pen is very taxed after not having Jeurys Familia for a few games due to paternity leave. I think this is a great opportunity for Morris to show what he can do. He will most likely be here for only for a few games, but if he does well, he could be here longer. I would like to see the Mets put him in the 8th inning as an option as a set up man to Familia since we have no viable options right now.

The pitching matchup is Jon Niese ( 3-6, 4.43 ERA) vs. RHP Tim Linnecum ( 6-3, 3.29 ERA)

Is It Time For the Mets To Put Matt Harvey on DL?

Mets starter Matt Harvey has hit a bump in the road after starting off the season 5-0. Last night against the Giants, he gave up 7 runs and blew a 4-2 lead. He also gave up 7 runs against the Pirates earlier this year. He has not had the same command of his fastball that showed earlier in the season. It's more straight and right over the middle of the plate. It's expected that Harvey was going to show rust after coming off Tommy John surgery and having not pitched for 18 months. I think it might be time for the Mets to put him on the DL and give him 15 days to rest his arm. This might help him later in the season and could allow him to stay fresh for the stretch run in August and September. I think this would make the sense and help the Mets long term.

Mets Catcher Travis d'Arnaud Returns To Lineup

The Mets announced today that Travis d'Arnaud will be returning to the lineup tonight after fracturing his hand on April 19th. Prior to his injury, d'Arnaud was hitting .317 with 2 homers and 10 RBI's. He will provide a huge boost to the lineup since the Mets offense has really struggled since he was hurt. I'm so glad that TDA is finally back. It's been a long time coming. Hopefully he will hit the ground running and not a beat. We need him to hit like he was pre-injury for this lineup to finally start scoring some runs.

Can This Mets Offense Get Any Worse?

Last night, the Mets offense reached a low point when they were no-hit by Giant starter Chris Heston. They can't produce any runs and are now struggling to even get hits. Fortunately, Travis d'Arnaud is back tonight which should help this team score some runs. However, it won't solve all the problems.  They still need other hitters to step up. Michael Cuddyer and Curtis Granderson have been major disappointments this year. Lucas Duda has struggled since coming back from injury. In order for the Mets to sore more runs, they need to have Duda, Cuddyer, and Granderson produce. I think the offense will start to come around. They need to start tonight and give Matt Harvey some run support.

Mets Draft Desmond Lindsey With 53th Overall Pick

Last night in the 2015 MLB Draft, the Mets drafted Desmond Lindsey with the 53th overall pick in the second round. They lost their first round pick when they signed Michael Cuddyer as a free agent. Lindsey is 18 years old and graduated from Out of Door Academy in Bradenton, FL. He was committed to the University of North Carolina before being drafted by the Mets. He bats right-handed and is projected to be a prospect who can hit for power as well as show speed on the base paths. His natural position is center field, but he can also play some first base. It's impossible to project how draft picks will turn out, but hopefully we will see Lindsey in the major leagues in a few years along with the Mets other outfield prospects Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto.

Mets Move Dillon Gee To Bulpen

The Mets announced yesterday that starting pitcher Dillon Gee will be moved to the bullpen. This is no surprise, since Gee has been the team's worst starter this season with a record of 0-3 and a 4.26 ERA. Hopefully this move will help Gee get straightened out. If he starts to pitch well, then the Mets can move him back in rotation. If Gee is able to pitch well as a starter, then the Mets might be able to find a trade partner for him, which is something they've been trying to do last 2 seasons.

Daniel Murphy Placed On 15 Day DL

The Mets announced today that second baseman Daniel Murphy was placed on the 15-day DL with a left quadriceps injury. Danny Muno has been recalled. In his previous call-up, he had one hit in 17 at-bats. This is a crushing blow to the Mets offense they have already lost David Wright, Travis d'Arnaud, and Dilson Herrera. In the meantime, Eric Campbell will most likely get the majority of the starts at 3b while Ruben Tejada plays 2b and Wilmer Flores remains at SS. Hopefully Michael Cuddyer, Curtis Granderson, and Lucas Duda can hit well in Murph's absence until he comes back and well as getting d'Arnaud and Herrera get healthy.

How Much Longer Should The Mets Live With Dillon Gee in Starting Rotation?

It's no secret the Mets have been trying to trade Dillon Gee. They tried trading him in the offseason to the Texas Rangers, but a deal wasn't able to be made. This offseason, Gee has continued to struggle with a record of 0-3 and a ERA of 4.46. He just came off the DL due to groin issues. I think that Gee has worn out his welcome. With Steven Matz dominating in Triple A, he is on a very short leash. I think it's time that the Mets move Gee to the pen and call up Matz since he has no trade value at this point. If they are serious about being contenders this year, they need to throw out their best starters and can't afford to have bad starts by Gee or even Jon Niese cost them a playoff spot. Dillon Gee has been a decent 5th starter for several years, but it's time for the Mets to move on from him. They need to just have a rotation made up of young studs Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergarrd, Jacob deGrom, and Steven Matz as well as Bartolo Colon for the remainder of the season in order to either hopefully win the NL East or win the wild card.

Has Ruben Tejada Showed Enough To Start At Third Base?

Throughout the last few seasons, Ruben Tejada has been much maligned by the Mets fans, media, front office, and even Manager Terry Collins for his lack of offensive production at shortstop and poor defense. This year, he lost his starting shortstop job to Wilmer Flores and has been used as a utility player with an occasional start. With David Wright being out with spinal stenosis, Tejada has played third base the last few games. Even though it's only been a small sample size, his offense has improved with a 3 run double in Saturday's game, and an go-ahead RBI single in yesterday's win. He has focused on hitting line drives and not tried to hit homers with a long uppercut swing. His defense has gotten better as well and has become more comfortable making longer throws to first as well as starting double plays. I think that Ruben Tejada has earned more starts at third base. The Mets don't have any other options since Eric Campbell and Danny Muno have not shown to be everyday Major League players. Even though Tejada is not the long term answer, I think for the time being he has done enough to show he can start at 3rd base until Wright returns.
