Mets Lose to Giants 7-2 After David Peterson and Offense Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 7-2 tonight at Oracle Park for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 3-4.

LHP David Peterson got off to a rocky start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a one-out single to DH Rafael Devers and two batters later, a RBI triple to 2B Luis Arraez. Peterson then gave up a RBI double to 3B Matt Chapman and then dropped the ball covering first on a grounder which allowed Chapman to score from second.

Peterson had a scoreless bottom of the second and then gave up two more runs in the bottom of the third on two sacrifice flies. 

He had a 1-2-3 bottom of the fourth and then had a ground-out and walk in the bottom of the fifth and was then taken out.

Peterson's final line was 4.1 innings, nine hits, six runs, five earned runs, two walks and five strikeouts.

LHP Sean Manaea came in next and gave up a walk and RBI single to 1B Casey Schmitt. 

Manaea gave up a solo homer to Devers in the bottom of the sixth and then threw scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single, LF Juan Soto then grounded into a fielder's choice and 3B Bo Bichette drove in Soto with a RBI double.

In the top of the second, 1B Mark Vientos led off with a homer.

The offense did not do much after that with only five hits for the entire game going 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving four runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, April 3 at the Giants at 10:15 p.m.
