Buck Showalter Named NL Manager of Year

New York Mets manager Buck Showalter was named National League Manager of the year tonight by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Showalter helped lead the Mets to 101 wins and second place in the NL East in his first year with the team.

This is the fourth time he has won manager of the year after he previously won it in 1994 with the New York Yankees, 2004 with the Texas Rangers, 2014 with the Baltimore Orioles and now once again in 2022.

Mets Pick Up 2023 Option For Carlos Carrasco

 New York Mets general manager announced today that the team has picked up RHP Carlos Carrasco $14 million team option for the 2023 season.

Carrasco went 15-7 with a 3.97 ERA and 152 strikeouts in 152 innings for the Mets this past season.

It was a foregone conclusion that Carrasco would be back next year since there are a question marks with the starting rotation due to that RHP Jacob deGrom, RHP Chris Bassitt and RHP Taijuan Walker are all free agents.

Mets Resign Closer Edwin Diaz To Record Contract

 The New York Mets resigned star closer RHP Edwin Diaz this afternoon to a five-year, $102 million contract.

The contract includes an opt-out after the third year, a full no-trade clause, and a sixth-year team option.

If Diaz comes back for a sixth year, his contract would total six-years and $122 million.

This makes Diaz the highest paid reliever in MLB reliever and he is making an annual average value of $20.4 million.

He is coming off a dominant season in 2022 with a 1.31 ERA and struck out 50.2% of the batters he faced.
