Mets Shutout By Cardinals 3-0 And Waste Solid Outing By Kodai Senga With Poor Offense

The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0 tonight at Busch Stadium and dropped their record to 3-2.

RHP Kodai Senga started out well with two scoreless inning, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the third.

Senga was let down by his defense after CF Luis Robert Jr let him down after misplaying a line drive  over his head and then made a poor throw home on the following hitter which allowed runners to advance to second and third.

Senga then gave up a two-run double to catcher Ivan Herrera.

Senga was able to settle down after that retiring the next six hitters he faced and then worked around two walks in the bottom of the fifth to throw a scoreless inning.

Senga closed out his outing in dominating fashion striking out the side in the bottom of the sixth.

His final line was six innings, two runs, four hits, three walks and nine strikeouts on 92 pitches with 56 strikeouts. Senga averaged 97.4 mph on his 36 fastballs and his last pitch was a 98 mph fastball.

LHP Richard Lovelady followed in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a solo homer to 3B Ramon Urias to start the inning and then gave up a single and intentional walk, but did not allow any more runs.

Lovelady stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

The Met offense did nothing all night with only three hits and drawing four walks. They went 0-4 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base,

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, April 1 at the Cardinals at 1:15 p.m.

Mets Beat Cardinals 4-2 Behind Bo Bichette and Strong Pitching

The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 tonight at Busch Stadium and improved their record to 3-1.

The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a triple and two batters later, 3B Bo Bichette drove in Lindor with a RBI ground-out.

The offense was held scoreless for the next three innings until the top of the fifth after CF Carson Benge led off with a single and two batters later, Lindor walked. LF Juan Soto then grounded into a fielder's choice, and Bichette came up next and delivered once again with a RBI single.

In the top of the sixth, RF Brett Baty led off with a single and 1B Jared Young followed with a RBI double.

2B Marcus Semien followed with a strikeout and then Benge grounded out, but catcher Francisco Alvarez walked and Lindor was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Soto followed with a based loaded walk to bring in another run.

RHP Clay Holmes gave up a lead-off walk to 2B JJ Wetherholt and then was able to induce a ground-out and committed a balk to advance Wetherholt to third. Holmes gave up a RBI single to 1B Alec Burleson.

Holmes was able to settle down after that with back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning and retired seven hitters in a row before allowing a two-out solo homer to 3B Nolan Gorman.

Holmes's final line was two runs on four hits in 5.2 innings. He had five strikeouts with three walks. He was able to induce eight ground-outs including a double play grounder and two flyouts. Holmes picked up his first win.

RHP Tobias Myers followed and picked up the last out in the bottom of the sixth. Myers stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and had a dominating inning striking out the side on 12 pitches.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next in the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Devin Williams followed in the bottom of the ninth and closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning to pick up his first save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, March 31 at the Cardinals at 7:45 p.m.

Mets Lose to Pirates 4-3 in 10 Innings As Offense Struggles To Get Clutch Hit

The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 this afternoon at Citi Field to lose their first game of the season and dropped their record to 2-1.

Mets RHP Nolan McLean got off to a rocky start in the top of the inning after he gave up back-to-back walks to the first two hitters and later in the inning a RBI single to RF Ryan O'Hearn.

McLean had a scoreless top of the second and then gave up a solo homer to 2B Brandon Lowe in the top of the third.  

McLean was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth and was then taken out.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with 1.2 scoreless innings.

LHP Sean Manaea came in next and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Luke Weaver threw a scoreless top of the ninth,

LHP Richard Lovelady came on in the top of the tenth and gave a RBI single to O'Hearn and after getting a double play grounder, walked the next two hitters he faced and then gave up a RBI single to catcher Henry Davis.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, CF Luis Robert Jr singled with one out in the bottom of the second and then 1B Brett Baty followed with a single.

2B Marcus Semian then drove in Robert Jr with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fifth, SS Francisco Lindor tripled with one out and then LF Juan Soto followed with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the seventh, catcher Luis Torrens and Lindor singled with one out and then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch.

However, Soto and 3B Bo Bichette struck out to end the threat.

In the bottom of the tenth, Lindor led off with a walk and Soto followed with a RBI double, but Lindor was thrown out trying to score the tying run.

Bichette then grounded out and 1B Jorge Polanco flew out for the last out.

The Mets offense struggled all game with men on base and went 2-10 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, March 30 at the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:45 p.m.

Mets Beat Pirates 4-2 in 11 Innings on Luis Robert Jr Walk-Off Homer

The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2 in 11 innings today at Citi Field and improved their record to 2-0.

The Mets offense was held scoreless for the first nine innings wasting numerous scoring chances, but then finally broke through in the bottom of the tenth.

2B Marcus Semian led off with a hit by pitch and then pinch-hitter Mark Vientos followed with a single.

Catcher Luis Torrens then drove in Brett Baty with the tying run who started out on second base as the ghost runner.

In the bottom of the eleventh, 1B Jorge Polanco led off with a walk and then CF Luis Robert Jr came through with a three-run walk-off homer.

LHP David Peterson had a solid first debut with 5.1 scoreless innings. Peterson gave up six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with and picked up the last two outs in the top of the sixth.

RHP Luke Weaver threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

LHP Brooks Raley threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Devin Williams threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

RHP Luis Garcia gave up a run in the top of the tenth.

LHP Richard Lovelady gave up a run in the top of the 11th, but still managed to pick up his first win of the season.

Mets Beat Pirates 11-7 on Opening Day Powered By Benge and Alvarez Homers and Knock Paul Skenes Out of First

The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-7 this afternoon at Citi Field on Opening Day and improved their record to 1-0.

The Mets offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first against Pirates ace RHP Paul Skenes after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and and then LF Juan Soto followed with a single to advance Lindor to third.

3B Bo Bichette then drove in Lindor with a sacrifice fly and 1B Jorge Polanco followed with an infield hit.

CF Luis Robert Jr followed with a walk to load the bases and then DH Brett Baty delivered with a bases clearing triple. 2B Marcus Semian followed with a RBI double.

The offense was held scoreless for the first next two innings until the bottom of the fourth after Lindor led off with a walk and Soto followed with a walk. Three batters later, CF Luis Robert Jr drove in Lindor with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fifth, LF Carson Benge walked with one out and then catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a single. Lindor followed with a single to load the bases and Soto drove in Benge with a RBI single.

Two batters later, Polanco drove in Alvarez with a based loaded walk and then Robert Jr reached on an infield hit to score Lindor.

In the bottom of the sixth, Benge hit a solo homer for his first career homer and then Alvarez followed with a homer for back-to-back homers.

RHP Freddy Peralta got off to a tough start in his Met debut in the top of the first after he gave up a two-run homer to  2B Brandon Lowe. 

Perelta had a scoreless top of the second and then gave up a solo homer to Lowe in the top of the third.  Peralta had a scoreless top of the fourth and gave up a RBI double to catcher Henry Davis in the top of the fifth and then Peralta was taken out after the inning.

Peralta's final line was 5 innings,  six hits, four runs, 0 walks and seven strikeouts. He picked up his first win.

RHP Tobias Myers made his Met debut in the top of the sixth and gave up a RF Ryan O'Hearn.

Myers stayed in the game and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth.

Myers's final line was three innings, one hit, one run, 0 walks and one strikeout.

RHP Rico Garcia came on in the top of the ninth and gave up a two-run double to 3B Nick Gonzales, but was able to pick up the last three outs to close out the game.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Saturday, March 28 at home against the Pirates at 4:10 p.m.
